Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, if only!!!!
Sunday 23rd. Saturdays racing had my heart pounding two out as DARA TANGO, which we had all backed last Monday anti post for the fixed brush hurdle at Haydock, loomed up and was trading long odds on, on the machine, although he didn’t find as much as expected or we hoped, he did secure third at 20/1 making us all a very nice profit.
As I said in last weeks column I wonder if the Nicholl’s team will let SILVIANO off the leash this week, well they certainly did and with a vengeance as he bolted in, that’s my idea of the King George winner on Boxing Day. Now everybody can probably see why I don’t watch the Morning Line, as I have since heard everybody say that backing AL FEROF, who looks a Ryanair horse to me, after listening to the comments would of been virtually impossible, how can a champion trainer be so far from the mark?
The rest of Saturday was a watching and work in progress for me, although I do think that THE NEW ONE needs a lot of improvement and is far to short for the Champion Hurdle.
Sunday morning it’s my weekly church visit and 500 hail Mary’s and then straight home and into the form book.
I kick my ANDY BELLs clients Sunday off with a rather ridiculous win double with two odds on shots, but to me it looks like picking money up from the street. MILSEAN 1/3 and VAUTOUR 1/4.
We than get more adventurous, lol and I put up a whopping 5/2 shot in the shape of BREDON HILL LAD and than we go completely gar gar and back BALBRIGGEN ew at 14/1 in the 25 runner Troytown Ladbrokes hurdle. The holy water must of affected me this morning as we round the day of with a big ew trixie, BREDON HILL LAD 5/2, BALBRIGGEN 14/1 and TROJEN OSCAR with my favourite jumps jockey, Ruby doing the steering at 11/4. As I say in my daily message seat of our pants time today as we have laid out shit loads of points and money, whole duck or no dinner time Bellie Boy hehehe.
With all my work done I need a chill and with all the monies I have just laid out and worse advised all you to and time to reflect, as it’s nearly that time of year I am accosted by Sharon, for her flower shop, to show my hunter gathering skills by winning or acquiring shall we say, some fir tree branches, Christmas tree branches, holly and pine cones for her excellent and painfully homemade Christmas wreaths. With the van half full and I am absolutely soaked to the skin as we couldn’t of picked a worse rainy day, it’s nearing kickoff time, so with a quick trim up of a holly bush we’re on the way home.
Leaving a trail of clothes all the way up the stairs, god knows what mother would of thought if she had of arrived, I just make the TV to watch our first “shoe in” MILSEAN, well he won, but I’m glad he cut up SNOW FALCON on the rail as I might of looked a even wetter twit than I do now. Even so our day gets off to the winning start we all expected and he was smashed into 2/11. How did Lucy win on BREDON HILL LAD, a great ride as for all intense purposes we are beaten and out with the washing, as Smudger texted, who had helped me get my bets on today, “think you owe her a drink” the way she was jumping up and down on BREDON I would buy her one as well.
Two out of two the first one in our soppy double is home as more importantly our first one has won in our big ew trixie.
Now that’s how a long odds on shot should be ridden and win as VAUTOUR never sees another horse and wins with his head firmly in his chest also at 2/11, so we have nicked what little value there was and landed a nearly even money double in the process.
With the so called easy races over we now have the 25 runner Ladbroke hurdle, I can’t believe my eyes as for such a big and competitive race we are smashed up in the betting from our 14/1 into an amazing and ridiculously short 4/1.
Kevin always has him perfectly placed and jumping the last the adrenalin gets the better of me and I oi oi him all the way to the line.
OMG we now have four out of four, a double already landed and the monies in the bin and a 5/2 and a 12/1 winner in our ew trixie. As I settle down I know, but I didn’t realise how big, we are on the verge of an absolutely MASSIVE 400 point plus day, if Ruby wins on GALLANT OSCAR at 11/4.
GALLANT OSCAR is also smashed up in the betting and starts at 11/8, personally I think it’s us lot that have shortened this up as the Greedy 1s are on the verge of a massive payout. Jumping two out I think it’s just a matter of time when Ruby asks him. He has jumped like a stag all the way round and unbelievably fluffs the last and can never quite recover and gets beaten an agonising neck. Can you believe I have just won in the region of 14k and I am absolutely gutted, how bazaar and ridiculous is that. When the dust has settled I have a quick recky up and I have made all my clients over 100 points profit and was only a neck away from over 400, how nice would that of been coming up to Christmas. Well done Bellie Boy job well done I reckon.
Monday 24th. Yesterday’s great win ensured we are sitting pretty in the Betfan who’s who table and also pushed us past the 1000 points profit barrier in just over a year.
We have also gone top of the yearly BETFAN table, after our magnificent win and also very unlucky day yesterday, well 2nd really, but with Click tipster top, I personally don’t count that as since he has been live I haven’t seen him performing to his proofing levels, as many don’t. Forgetting all these new boys that keep getting drafted in you can’t get away from the proven long term live form. I did tell everybody in my last two columns to jump on board the good ship Bellie as we are now hitting top gear as the jumps form has started to settle.
Just the one for us to back today and he runs at Kempton and has traded as big as 8/1 this morning, LORD LANDEN.
Over the past few weeks my Monday afternoons have been spent trying to see if anything stands out in the coming anti-post markets and very successfully, if I say so myself with a 25/1 winner and a 20/1 third. This week I am just praying that the rain stays away from Newcastle as I am desperate to take last time faller IRVINE on with our SIGN OF VICTORY in Saturdays fighting fifth. The problem with him is the real big fear, that if the forecast is in fact correct SIGN OF VICTORY’s participation is very uncertain, so I decide to keep our powder “dry” this week.
LORD LANDEN runs as if something is surely amiss as he is never at the races and is eventually pulled up, so we have done our money today, I never like losing but yesterday makes it a tad more bearable.
Tuesday 25th. Todays cards doesn’t look anything special, which is normally the case with big race meetings on the horizon.
So with no bets today I arrange to meet Paul Cabbage and have an afternoon off. We head towards the Swan Hotel and as we enter Robin, the landlord is smiling like a Cheshire cat at us, maybe he is just happy to see us, just as he has taken the tops off our bottles a screech comes from the far corner and he bursts into fits of laughter, we have only picked the wailing over sixties, country music afternoon. Well I say music tongue in cheek, as this very loose hanging lady and her recorder accompaniment are attempting their Dolly Parton take, no letup, its Kenny Rogers turn and can you believe he is attempting to sing the Gambler, very apt but also very bad, just as we are guzzling our bottles, a still laughing Robin sits two more on the bar and no sign of any Allo Allo cheese for our poor ears, we are captured for another song or two. We finally make a bolt for it just as Johnny Cash hits a piecing Ring Of Fire note and freedom at last.
Whatever JDs throw at us now it will be bliss. It certainly is a vast improvement with sedate background music and a pretty little girl behind the bar, a far cry from Robin and the wailers. Our lifts arrive so we call it a day around sixish and I have defiantly drawn the short straw as Paul has got Shelly in a Jag and I have hippy Geoff my gardener in a van.
Wednesday 26th. After a quiet day yesterday, well on the betting front anyway, I am pleased that the calls are coming in with what seems some decent stuff this morning.
I finish off my morning with four bets split evenly between my ANDY BELL and LATE SERVICES clients. I am really pleased that both our Anti-post bets I put up last Monday, in the Hennessy have been officially declared as runners, FINGAL BAY at 8/1, which is still available and DRUIDS NEPHEW at 16/1 which has been cut and is only 10/1 which is now the best price on offer.
It’s that flip of a coin scenario again today as my ANDY BELLs clients endure a losing one, whereas my LATE SERVICE clients make a very nice 16 point profit, thanks in main to JEBEDIAH SHINE bolting in at an amazing sp of 7/2, compared with 7/4 this morning, best odds guaranteed triumph again. The best odds guaranteed must be one of the best ever concessions offered by the Greedy 1s and must be enjoyed by all punters, it is also an absolute must for anyone taking this game seriously.
Thursday 27th. I am very disappointed when I look at the Newbury card today, we have three very short priced favourites, leaving only a couple of races to work on and I can’t find anything to punt in them, so it’s a blank day at Newbury for me.
I have been told that the stable thinks they have another quick win in BARTON HEATHER who is trading at 11/10, so I email her out as a small win bet. Unfortunately the rain has arrived at Newcastle and along with it, has gone our chances of SIGN OF VICTORY winning as this lunchtime he was declared a non runner, making me glad I aired on the side of caution on Monday as I didn’t back or advise backing him ew.
BARTON HEATHER is very game in defeat, but that doesn’t put money in our pockets and she finishes a clear second.
JOLLYALLEN wins the first at Newbury as a 1/8 shot should. This trend continues as the next two favourites win, then a 2/1 shot followed by the next three favourites, so not a day for the Greedy 1s to remember.
I think that we have found one for next Saturdays Becher Chase, GREEN FLAG who is trading at 16/1 and I think he is a cracking ew bet.
Friday 28th. a quick reroute and change of plans and my father is running me to the station this morning, as I am catching the 8-15am train to Doncaster.
Well done the Colonel yesterday with three good winners and making a nice profit on day 1 of our special, not the greatest of prices, as six out of the seven favourites won, but he could only work with the tools given. It’s up to the Grumbling Don to carry on the good work today and then me to carry the batten home Saturday.
A shocking day yesterday nothing more to say apart from tomorrow’s another day.
Saturday 29th. I would rather of woken up with a woman from the Doncaster purple door than with memories of yesterday, but we must kick on, gather our thoughts and move on.
It’s my day in the limelight and I hope I can help all you boys and girls in my Newbury special, the only thing I can say is if I don’t it won’t be for the want of trying.
Today’s Brucey bonus and free tip is….
