Slow Start, Strong Finish. (ask the wife).
Sunday 14th. I couldn’t wait until yesterdays running of the Gold Cup at Cheltenham as I was still very sweet on our chances with BARRIKILLA our last weeks anti-post bet ew at 10/1, who is now 9/2 and another Pricewise selection. It’s amazing our last four anti-post selections have all be matched by Pricewise on the race day. It will be interesting to see if he matches ours in the Ladbroke hurdle this Saturday (20th) which we all have 20/1 on or the King George on Boxing Day where we have hovered up the 33/1.
First up was our 11/1 shot MR GALLIVANTOR, his stable were making very encouraging noises about him and thought he would go very close.
CHAMPAGNE WEST was a lot of peoples idea of banker of the day and to be honest I couldn’t see him and Dicky getting beaten either so at 10/11 I put him up as maximum bet. With BARRIKILLA already backed ew at 10/1 in the Gold Cup, we finished our day off with another maximum bet on HIDDEN GOLD at Wolverhampton in the evening.
Unfortunately our day didn’t get off to the expected good start and we all blew our poke on MR GALLIVANTOR. I will be very interested to hear what, if any excuses or reasons for the poor performance surface, as this very shrewd stable don’t often get it so badly wrong.
Although CHAMPAGNE WEST didn’t win as easily as we expected who cares look at today’s paper and see that we did win. Next was our 10/1 anti-post shot BARRIKILLA who looked to be going well than dropped back and ultimately finished very strongly to finish second, so another nice anti-post profit.
Our 5/6 on HIDDEN GOLD looked huge at the off as he was smashed into 1/2 and with a circuit to go i wish we could of had lots more as he made it four on the trot with consummate ease.
In summary three out of our four bets were winning ones and all that matters is we have turned in another profitable day.
Sunday morning and what an amazing morning considering we are mid December and only eleven days from the greatest show on earth. Yes I love Christmas we always have the house fully decorated and two real Christmas trees, only this year whilst I was away racing and my container got cleared out my outside lights mysteriously went missing, which I later found out was because they were not all in working order so they graced the weekly bonfire with their presence. Never mind we still have the twenty foot bonfire in our meadow which survived Bonfire night this year, which will brighten the place up and with the accompaniment of the fireworks boxing evening this should liven up our sleepy little village and if our Anti-post 33/1 shot wins the King George as well, trust me our village WILL not be at all sleepy.
Monday 15th. We are treading water at the moment, its a funny thing to say because we are not yet winning this month “note the yet” I don’t feel out of form. We have now had three winning days on the trot, the problem is all three would only just about buy us a pot of tea. We are just not quite hitting the winners yet and getting too many ew seconds and thirds, which are returning a small profit, but nothing to shout about. Saturday’s BARRIKILLA was another casing point when second in the Gold cup, which we had backed ew at 10/1 and yesterday DARA TANGO who was also second who we also backed ew at 5/1 and if you look at my months proofing this has been the case so many times already.
As I always say it’s no good going off at a million miles an hour and fading right away at the business end, ask the wife, you always need a slow start and build up momentum through the month and finish strongly and thankfully all this year apart from one blip, I think, we have always achieved this goal and are bang up there on the day of reckoning.
Last night I sent today’s emails as I knew I was going to be busy and possibly out of signal. Both our bets are running at Ffos Llas today, firstly VOLT FACE 5/2 after his third last time out and to me in what looked like a pipe opener, than two races later, OSCAR SUNSET at 5/4 who should have won last time and for some reason didn’t and looks to be well in.
My Newmarket trip and meeting went very well and we should be benefiting in the next few weeks with a couple of runners on the AW.
I was disappointed to see that VOLT FACE was pulled out with a vets certificate so all our monies are now reliant on OSCAR SUNSET. Jumping two out I’m thinking Oi Oi how far, but Paul Moloney is super confident and hangs on to the very easy going OSCAR SUNSET and amazingly gets beaten a nose, I am in a state of total shock and disbelief and still watching the reruns I can’t believe we have been beaten. A nose has ruined what would of been a nice winning day, should Moloney kicked on when he was holding so much horse, personally I think so, but that view is aided with hindsight.
Tuesday 16th. We should of been counting our winnings last night, not wooing our loses, such small margins our game is based on and it’s just going against us at the moment with seven seconds so far this month.
On the bright side the book and kindle sales are very encouraging and the reviews and reports I am getting are also most pleasing, glad you’re all enjoying it.
This is the link if you want to have a look http://www.mybetfanyear.com and maybe tick off another Christmas present.
We weren’t able to unfortunately trouble the scorers today with two losers.
Wednesday 17th. I have a different experience today Paul Cabbage is picking me up and taking me near Lincolnshire for a game and vegetable auction. I don’t mind as I’m not away racing until Ascot Friday and Saturday. It’s ok work wise as I have my iPad my internet connector and of course the trusty old mobile.
As we arrive I am being stared at and I didn’t think authors were that famous that quick lol, then I realise it’s my iPad and internet connector I’m working on, out in these depths these modern gadgets haven’t arrived yet and they must think I have just come out of a space ship.
I email out our first bet of the day on my ANDY BELLs service, FORYOURINFORMATION which at 5/1 looks an ew steal, especially with the uncertainty surrounding whether the favourite will stay or not.
The LATE SERVICE hasn’t been flying yet either this month, so I am glad when I am told we have a “good thing” today and hopefully it will kick our month off. I advise taking the 11/10 on ITS A STEEL at Ludlow.
Paul seems to have bought half of the market, 56 chickens, a van load of parsnips, carrots and onions, oh and not forgetting five chickens to top up our little hen house.
We drop our booty off and head into the town and pop into the Swan to watch the days runners. We cheer ITS A STEEL home and as I said in my email ITS A STEEL is a steel and he wins very easily and confidently by a hard pulling 20ish lengths. The Skelton favourite does in fact stay and we are relegated to a clear second making another very small profit so no harm done.
Thursday 18th. A nice and an overdue success for the LATE SERVICE and another very annoying ew second for ANDY BELL.
ALBERTOS DREAM ew at 4/1 is my only bet on the ANDY BELL service and TRICKAWAY at 5/2 I decide to put on the LATE SERVICE on what looks a tricky day, especially in the very heavy conditions.
Most of today is going to be used up working on the next two days cards at Ascot. I really like the look of the JP owned YANWORTH who won very cosily last time and seems to have loads more in the tank, so I am going to build my day around him.
ALBERTOS DREAM is travelling so well until he hit four out and totally empties out. Now TRICKAWAY has got his jumping sorted he wins nicely again and gives my LATE SERVICE service another winner and personally very nice winning day.
I know that we are not yet winning this month but as I said earlier this week I don’t feel out of form and in my opinion it’s just waiting to happen.
Last knockings I can’t believe that Corals are offering 6/5 on MILANSBAR who runs at Uttoxeter tomorrow. He won very easily last time and as I say on this evenings email I can only assume that the only reason for this huge price (not huge as in big, but huge in context) is the Greedy 1s are factoring in the bounce factor because I have him tissued up at 1/2 on.
Friday 19th. Last night I sent an email out to my ANDY BELLs clients advising us all to have a maximum bet on MILANSBAR and waking this morning I am amazed that he is still trading at 6/5, maybe I am missing something. As I said yesterday I really like the look and the profile of the AP, yes my mate AP ridden YANWORTH at 13/8 and the impressive last time out winner DANCE FLOOR KING who’s 13lb rise will struggle to stop him winning again. I also advise backing all three in an ew trixie.
I have decided not travel down to Ascot today as my form reading thinks the M25 is going to be manic tonight. Once again as it is Christmas and we will have loads of staff party’s rejoicing I decide to accept the kind offer of Paul Cabbages pick up.
We rock up in the Swan, again you say, it’s not the poshest of places but we get the internet, watch the racing and get silly without repercussions and oh yes the barmaid is a stunner.
The cider tastes much sweeter as DANCE FLOOR KING defies the 13lb rise, as we thought he would, MILANSBAR just does as we expected lead all the way and never looked in doubt. Two bets and two winners that’s better and my mate AP to come.
Why, oh why can’t I get the greatest jockey right, miles clear of the field and we get beaten by a flat trainer and book another second.
A very nice winning day and two outta three ain’t bad as he said.
Saturday 20th. It was nice to ease the months pain yesterday making over 30 points profit and it was so very nearly much more. Never mind we are getting there and hopefully we have had our blip and now we can kick on.
I have just watched the Phil Taylor interview and play on Sky Sports, how does this man continue to perform, not just perform but at the very, very top. Hopefully I have just gained some inspiration from the great man.
When you think he first won the world title in 1990 and he has won it sixteen more times in twenty four years. As he said on his interview he is now nearing the end of his career and he has certainly been the greatest darts player ever and he is bang up there with my nemesis AP.
Free tip : Fairyhouse 12-35 THUNDER AND ROSES 9/4 various
The Power didn’t even get out of second gear, stunning. Have we got a darts service in Betfan who’s gonna bet on him NOT getting off sweet sixteen.
It’s ok NEVER, NEVER, never getting caught but if you get grassed up trust me it’s not nice.
This time next week Rodney, hopefully we will be toasting a HUGE, HUGE boxing day Hunter Chase MAXIMUM win over the water.
Be good have a fantastic Christmas spend our 600ish points yearly profit, not wisely, but happily.
Back next Saturday.
Andy Bell
