Andy Bell’s Racing Diary – The Royal Week. (Sun 14th – Fri 19th June 2015)

June 20, 2015 By admin Leave a Comment

Sunday 14th. Yesterday was one of the quietest Saturdays that I can remember, I suppose it was to be expected as every man and his dog or horse are gearing themselves up for the Royal meeting this week. The only small piece of information I get all morning is for a jumper, ANOTHER BYGONES ew who is trading at 9/1 and takes on, can you believe it an Arc runner at Hexham.

I am travelling back down to Sandown again today I don’t really know why because I have nothing to back and to be honest I would rather stay at home and watch the cricket today, but needs must, who knows who I will meet or what I will learn.

ANOTHER BYGONES nicks us a place and finished up a super sp of 14/1 making us a nice little profit out of a nothing day.

Sunday morning Another quiet one and I just have the one bet again and once again it’s a big price as yesterdays was. Todays is a 16/1 shot ew is SPIRAEA. With my solitary bet emailed out I think a day out to lunch is in order before I go missing for most of next week.

We have a lovely lunch and a nice bottle red and listening to the commentary on my mobile a furlong out I thought we had come to win the race and annoyingly we even get run out of a place, well thats 16/1 shots for you.

Monday 15th. No addition to our ever growing points total yesterday although a furlong out I thought we were a certainty for a place, but he faded in the last 100 yards and finished 5th.

Today I fancy getting the 1/2 shot JALINGO beaten who looks as if he is getting too used to finishing second for my liking and takes on the improving George Baker charge DESTINYS GOLD. I build my day around this view and I suggest that my ANDY BELL’s clients back DESTINYS GOLD to win at 10/3 and advise my LATE clients to maximum lay JALINGO, so this could quite easily go badly tits up for me today in more than one way.
The rest of the day is now ASCOT, ASCOT and more ASCOT as I am now surrounded in form books, papers, oddschecker the whole works as we want to have a another winning year as we did last.

Unfortunately I have been dumped for the Ascot special this year in favour of our little Scottish chum “Jimmy” lets hope he does better than the last two specials did at Punchestown and York when I think they had two winners between them in the eight days lol lol. He will because our Jimmy is a shrewd little bugger and knows his onions.

I do lift my head to watch JALINGO get beaten, into second again, he has a heart of a mouse and lungs, unfortunately it’s not by DESTINYS GOLD, so my LATE service had copped a maximum winning lay and my ANDY BELL’s client endure a small loss.

Tuesday 16th. Day 1 of Royal Ascot and I am absent without leave for the first time in many years, but rest assured I shall be there later in the week and I may even rush back to see if i can get a glimpse of Kylie’s legs at Newmarket on Friday evening.

It looks a fantastic first days card and one of my naps of the whole meeting is running in the first race, SOLOW I don’t care about the Hong Kong raider he is in Michael Bells yard and although they like him a lot he had a tendency to get excited and sweat up at times and if he does that on the big stage this afternoon he has no chance. I email out SOLOW as a maximum bet and have my nuts on him personally, so its’ a whole duck or no dinner to kick off with.

I am planning to spend the day in Weatherspoons with Paul Cabbage so no doubt it could get messy with the view of smashing into Greedy Joe with SOLOW and Friti Hays RAY WARD ew.

We arrive at 12-30pm quickly grab our table in front of the TV and rapidly turn it over to channel four racing, no moans today, I think they have all given up.

Right I have £530 in cash on me, so right away Paul is winging his way across to Greedy Joe’s with £450 of my folding and £250 of his own, job done prices taken although it’s always so annoying because Corals are NEVER best priced. Large Gins and Spritzers at 12-45 already I don’t want my head tomorrow. Geoff joins us and his face is relatively pale, I’m sure by about 4pm it will be shining ruby red as usual.

It’s looking good as Mr Hong Kong has sweated up and we look fantastic. As the race unfolds we have a perfect position in third and our main rival is mid pack as we hit the two pole we all start cheering and everybody around us, as there is only one winner SOLOW and my nap of the week has been landed and unbeknown to me most of Weatherspoon’s were on it, Mmmmm Paul’s best trait isn’t keeping things to himself, but as it won I don’t care a bit, bring it on.

About £700 in cash up and it isn’t 3-00 yet, where is this leading I wonder. I do just have £100 ew on RAY WARD at 8/1 but I am disappointed that I have told all my punters to take the 5 places with bet365 and good old Corals are only offering four.

We have a great laugh mostly at the expense of others and I take full advantage of my day off. It’s not quite so much fun as yes you know RAY WARD nosed into fifth, I’m personally gutted because I’m always banging on about taking advantage of things and nicking these small edges and I let them off the hook a shade by giving back £200 instead of getting somebody to ring the bet through with an account, see drink and betting never mix.

I can’t be to harsh on myself, although I am annoyed but I am £500 up in cash and we have had a nice first winning day.

About now 6ish I would normally be walking around the car part opposite the course drinking and eating at the poshy picnics from the car boots. Last year was a scream as we got right on one and didn’t even leave the car park until 10pm, it wouldn’t be like that this year as I am planning on an early one as we need to smash into IVAWOOD in tomorrows first race.

Wednesday 17th. A very satisfactory first day with one winner SOLOW and a place RAY WARD making us a very nice profit on day one. I can’t believe my eyes when I turn on odds checker and see that William Hill are offering 5/2 on IVAWOOD, I just can’t get my ANDY BELL’s client email out quick enough suggesting we max bet him as I am now attempting to do. I also really like the look of the Sir Michael trained INTEGRAL who was 11/10 early doors but is now a shade odds on and finally and certainly not least G M HOPKINS in the Hunt Cup ew 12/1, I thought that he was really unlucky last time out as the Meehan horse got first run on him and his low draw and ground will be perfect today and the 12/1 looks a huge price to me.

It’s time to don (don’t mention him I know, wonder how his Ascot is going lol lol lol) my finest and the arduous journey southwards armed with just enough cash for my X’s as I certainly won’t be betting at 120% or more round, no extra places, no best odds guaranteed, etc, etc. The journey is as expected and we meet the traffic just as we hit the M25 and it’s relentless until we finally turn the car off in the Ascot car park.

No alcohol today it’s the good boy stakes and I have had a decent bet on IVAWOOD back home in the first. He looks amazing in the paddock and has settled really well. I am a shade surprised that Hughsey doesn’t lead on him and two out I can see that we are beaten, even before we get badly hampered. Not a good start and I have just pissed away yesterdays profits.

Things don’t get any better as INTEGRAL runs as flat as a pancake and my two maximums of the day are down the pan also with a heap of my monies. What a get out stakes the thirty runner Royal Hunt Cup and I am all in on 12/1 G M HOPKINS, mad or what when I’m already over 2k down on the day. A great big and loud Oi Oi as G M hits the front a few yards from the line and wins for us all, how fickle we gamblers are all of a sudden the sky’s are blue and the grass is green and I have turned a 2k deficit around into a 4k profit. The good boy stakes is no more as we crack a bottle of £70 bubbles as it’s job done for the day and hopefully I can pass out for the tedious journey home. One thing leads to another and I drag poor old Chatterbox Magoo who is driving around the car park to enjoy the evenings joviality’s. Lol he finally gets me away at about 9-30 quite a bit rosier than I had anticipated.

Thursday18th. I have decided to give today a miss after yesterdays awful journey in, I can’t remember much about the homeward trip and it will be worse today as all the lady’s will be donning (mentioned him again, he may get an Ascot winner soon, but I suppose it’s only five days) finest and waving their lady gardens around at about 4ish, that part is ok, don’t get me wrong, but I have endured it for the last fourteen years. Yes it’s ten years ago to the day when Royal Ascot was at York and Rooty and I were guests in the Betdaq box and ended up using his top hat as an ice bucket and attempted to accidentally take the wrong top hats off the rack as we left, it just happened that we left our hired ones and took two silk ones, honest Sir, by this time we were about as subtle as bricks and were called back to rectify our little mistakes.

We kick off today with the really impressive looking KING OF ROOKS at 11/8 and in the same race I am told the David Watchman colt is no back number at home and hasn’t been brought here to make up the numbers so I also suggest an ew bet on WATERLOO BRIDGE at 20/1. Finally after touching base with my Newmarket lads I put up an ew bet on John Gosdens GRETCHEN ew at 10/1, who is well thought of at home and this relatively inexperienced colt is expected to give a good show of himself.

Personally I have Geoff to back KING OF ROOKS at 11/8 for me and WATERLOO BRIDGE ew although the best he can get me is only 18s with Bet365.

Once again I can’t bear to stay at home alone and watch the races, I have to have people and an atmosphere around me so we head into town and don (mentioned him again, you may get your first winner today lol) our normal seats and golly gosh the TV is already on channel four, they must be gagging for more winners after a super first two days with Paul being my representative yesterday.

I have a crazy idea of doing a bookies made up bet, which is suicide I know as I always say never do a bet designed by the Greedy 1’s, but I do, a £5 ew lucky 15, I kick of with WATERLOO BRIDGE 16/1, TIME TEST 2/1, GRETCHEN 10/1 and finally DISSOLUTION 9/2 in the last.

We are so busy watching the KING OF ROOKS and LOG OUT ISLAND battle for a second I miss WATERLOO BRIDGE coming, as soon as I clock him, I cheer him all the way to a nice and cosy 1/2 a length victory. OMG what a start a 20/1 winner for all my clients, a £50 ew with Geoff at 18/1 and the best possible start in my lucky 15 a 16/1 winner. Yes I’m the same as you all are the Lucky 15 ticket is straight out of my pocket just to check everything is in order and yes flash it around a bit all is ok prices taken and now the wait. When TIME TEST bolts in I am on the verge of a real biggy as I now have about £350 going on to GRETCHEN at 10/1 and then it doesn’t bear to think about at the moment and the way Ryan is riding for DISSOLUTION in the last.

I had been bought two bottles of wine and foghorn Paul has been handed a bottle of Gin for his part so far. The poor little girl GRETCHEN was too inexperienced and ran wide on the bend and lost her position, I do just think that William Buick had her too far back, she didn’t disgrace herself and is a winner waiting to happen. The day rather fizzles out after than with DISSOLUTION being unlucky in running and not placing. Never mind a great winning day and I cap top my 12/1 winner on Wednesday with a 20/1 winner today.

Lets start a campaign bring back ANDY BELL next year.

Friday 19th. Oi oi another winning day yesterday and we are now sailing well into the 100 points profit for the month and our third winning day on the trot at Ascot with our super 20/1 winner WATERLOO BRIDGE yesterday.

I am having to get all my work done early as I am traveling down to Ascot again and we have the crazy idea of stopping off at Newmarket on the way home tonight, as if we won’t of had enough by then, but I suppose we may get to have a fosters with Kylie.

Get the beers in Don-ald 0 winners Duck as I will be hunting you down today, if you dare show your face lol.

Gotta leave now and I’m not telling you the hot ones today, as you’ve gotta be in it to win it Guys.

P.S. I feel so sorry for all you Don customers you can join me for half price as I’m red, red hot again at the moment.

Never, never, never give up and never dare get caught.

Back next Saturday.
