Proper jumps racing begins in earnest for the season at Cheltenham today and there are four races live on ITV4. The coverage includes one of those wacky cross country chases in which the runners jump every conceivable obstacle in fields around the county of Gloucestershire. CANTLOW knows these circuits like the back of his hand but there are too many variables over 3 miles 6 furlongs to justify a bet.
Finian’s Oscar (2.25pm) was one of the best novice hurdlers last season with two wins at the highest level. The horse has been sent chasing immediately and won first time out in that discipline. There were lots of positives in that performance and the horse has now won six times in seven career starts. Movewiththetimes gets a handy eight pounds in the weights but FINIAN’S OSCAR can prevail so should be backed at Evens with bet365.
It’s Bolton at Preston tonight and not Preston’s of Bolton but the away side could struggle to pick up the jewels of three points on the road. Preston have conceded 13 goals in their last six matches and won one of their last eight fixtures in the Championship. Injuries and workload are major concerns and there doesn’t seem to light at the end of the tunnel. It’s the wrong time for a local derby live on television but Bolton have won just one of their last 10 away matches. On balance the most likely outcome is the DRAW which can be backed at 13/5 with William Hill.
Dominic Thiem and David Goffin meet in the ATP World Tour Finals today and the winner will progress to the semi-finals. Goffin has had a demanding schedule and his form is dipping as the week goes on. Conversely Thiem is the improving player and has created some momentum. He has won just three of the 10 meetings between the players including the only match indoors on hardcourts but Goffin retired during the first set. Even so THIEM is the match tip at 4/5 with Ladbrokes.
Racing fans will be watching the action from Cheltenham which is the start of the serious stuff that culminates in the four days that matter most next March.
