Gavorta entered calculations for the 2018 1,000 Guineas after an impressive win at Lingfield yesterday. The horse can now be backed at 33/1 with Skybet for the first filly’s Classic at Newmarket next year over one mile. The first four horses in ante post lists are trained by Aidan O’Brien and his quartet if running will be hard to beat. Gavorta beat two promising debutants with ease at Lingfield over seven furlongs and looks one of the best juvenile fillies to have appeared on the track to date. The 1,000 Guineas is run in nine months so anything can happen but at the price Gavorta is worth backing after such an impressive run.
Ladbrokes may have made an error in quoting Hayley Turner at Evens to ride 5 or more winners in France in 2017 and 3/1 that her tally is 10 at least by the end of the year. Female riders receive a weight allowance across the board in French racing, a move that Turner did not like at first. However, the only lady to ride over 100 winners in one season on the Flat has realised that this is an opportunity not to miss. She will be riding against less experienced male jockeys and riding more than 10 winners is feasible and that process can begin at Saint-Cloud where she rides today.
