Friday saw a slight change for the Free Tip with an ante post selection for the upcoming Essex Vase. I thought the 7/2 available on Track Champion Adageo Bob was too good to miss and suggested to all newsletter readers and subscribers to back it. I sent out a later selection to my subscribers of Fivestar Clipper as I felt the 4/1 available was too big. He has a habit of pinging or missing the break, which one was it to be, if it was a ping then 4/1 was massive. I was picked up by the Cardinal to go for our usual pre-meeting meal at the nearby Toby Carvery. We then popped up the Chase Restaurant to meet Cheesey for some wine, he was just back from Barbados, not that you would have known it, he was still pale! Unlike his girlfriend Amanda who had a lovely tan! The Essex Vase heats started Bob hosed up and Marco who had trapped well, giving us momentary excitement but he didn’t drive the 1st bend, was bumped only managing a very disappointing fourth and exited the Vase at the first hurdle. I’m normally very good at taking defeat but this one hit me hard as it was defeat snatched from a probable victory. So when Fivestar Clipper fluffed his lines at the start of the last vase heat the Cardinal and I made a sharp exit having seen enough.
Saturday saw me trying to sort out the wheat from the chaff in the Oaks Card at Belle Vue, most of the day. I thought it was a tricky card and eventually sent out a sporting win trixie to subscribers. Cashen Maureen was the first leg she ran a blinder but just couldn’t catch ante post favourite Jaytee China, who wasn’t held up early as I thought she’d be. Forest Sara duly landed leg two in fine style. Leg three I went for Burnfoot Belle who was raced fit over one of my favourite bitches Evanta Evita who was coming back from season I expected her to need the run. Evita bolted out and won comfortably. I think the winner is likely to come from the bitches mentioned above. Not the best of weekends so far on a punting/tipping front.
Sunday despite the horrendous weather Mrs D and I went up to Barley Kennels took Tommy out for walk, which he didn’t really appreciate in the pouring rain! There was a Xmas Bazar on and it was an opportunity to put him in show to prospective homers! I really would like a home for Xmas for Tommy. Home to dry out and get back on the winning trail for my subscribers. I was all over Benkaat Nero in trap one over the 550 trip at Henlow and advised a strong bet to my clients at the 6/4 available after having a decent bet myself. I watched Lewis Hamilton win his second GP Drivers title before taking Mrs D for a steak at Miller & Carter. I dropped her home before go into Billy Hills to watch Patch & Fizz running at Sittingbourne. Patch was third and ran well in defeat behind a very nice pup called Lenson Jed. Fizz looked to have an ideal opportunity to get off the mark in his maiden heat, so it proved where he overcame another tardy start to lead at the third bend and win going away by just under 5 lengths. So it’s a visit to Sittingbourne next Sunday to watch him in his Final.
Home to watch Benkaat Nero finish the day in style, blasting from the traps, there was never a moments doubt he wouldn’t win. He duly recovered the weekends expenses and some!
Monday was the usual catch up with videos etc and some paperwork. Nottingham had three heats of a sprint competition on. I thought Target Harris looked a solid bet at 10/11 so I sent it out to subscribers. However when I checked later just before the first heat I saw he was a non runner! I was hoping to have a quiet night but I spent all of it discussing Marco’s next target with his other two owners.
Tuesday morning saw me get stuck into my online tax return, a real labour of love that. I was waiting for the prices to come out for Sheffield’s opens, though nothing really took my eye on first glance at the card! The prices did nothing to inspire me to have a bet. I did get the quiet night I was looking for the night before.
Wednesday morning was all about the Essex Vase Semi Finals live in RPGTV. I picked out three selections once in each semi final and put them up in a small win trixie to subscribers. We were all sitting pretty with our ante post voucher on Adageo Bob. Had Poppy-Rose round to entertain me in the afternoon. After tea I settled down to watch the action but to my dismay I had read on twitter that Mark Wallis was struggling to make the meeting in time after severe traffic problems. Sure enough he turned up at the Essex track at 8pm too late to race Blonde Razor and Adageo Bob but just in time to race his two other dogs in the last semi final.
From a punting point of view this was a disaster not only for our ante post purposes but tonight’s races. The first heat selection was Any Dak advised at 7/2 but now with Blonde Razor a non runner the whole dynamic of the race changed along with the odds. Ballymac Aalto had no Razor to worry about at the first bend and was a major player! So it turned out with Aalto nailing Dak on the line! With no Adageo Bob running the coast was clear for Airport Captain to fly home in heat 2. Heat 3 saw outsider Adoremus land the win with a bullet break where our selection Hather George had lead boots on at lid rise.
The only good news was after Skybet and track owners Coral refunded ante post bets due to the unusual circumstances of the non runners, Bet 365 followed suit. They didn’t have to do that but it was much appreciated.
Thursday after a busy morning getting my dishwasher fixed and helping Mrs D re-arrange the living room, I set about the Hove card looking at the open races for a selection. I read Jonathan Kay’s open check column. He was swerving Droopys Odell as he feared the ‘bounce factor’ – I know horses suffer from it, a second run after a long lay off normally results in a poor run. I’m disagreeing with him and have advised punters to have a decent bet on Seamus Cahill’s Droopys Odell 11/8 who I expect to come further forward from last weeks fine win over c&d. Whose right we will see! Well it’s 1-0 to JK but the gods were smiling on him – trouble at the first bend for the leaders including the unlucky Odell left the door wide open for Jet stream smurf after a tardy break to walk through it and win the race!
Friday and for once Romford takes a back seat as RPGTV main event is the continuation of the Oaks and the start of the Laurels. It’s to a heat of the laurels we go for the FFT and Dave Deakins Eric Court looks to have a decent chance of winning his heat. Anything like a repeat of his blistering trial will be sufficient. The 9/4 offered by Ladbrokes & Power is more than fair as us the 20/1 available ante post!
