We know now it’s going to be a World Cup without Italy and Holland and only England of the four home nations have qualified. The Republic of Ireland have a great chance of playing in Russia next summer and a win against Denmark in Dublin tonight will suffice. The playoffs have mainly produced tight matches so the most likely outcome of this fixture is a one-nil victory for the Irish.
Ireland have not conceded in four of their last five fixtures against Denmark and if that becomes five from six one goal will see them qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 2002. In fact Ireland have only appeared in three tournaments and their best effort was reaching the last eight at Italia 90. They are a difficult side to beat but REPUBLIC OF IRELAND can win this fixture at 2/1 with Ladbrokes.
It’s rare that a match between England and Brazil gets second billing. However, the friendly at Wembley tonight will have no significance for the World Cup. On the face of it drawing with Germany seems a decent result but very few of the starters last Friday would be in the best 11 of either side. Brazil have lost just one of their last 16 matches so a diplomatic DRAW could be the best bet at 12/5 with Coral. Team selection will be key to the outcome of the Wales and Panama match so no bet.
Lingfield stages one of its rare jumps meetings today amongst the dross and sameness of countless All Weather fixtures. The highlight is a trappy handicap chase (2.50pm) in which De Faoithesdream could be a blot. The horse won off a higher weight in April 2016 and has shown glimpses of that form in defeat this season. Its got a difficult name to spell but persevere and put a win wager on DE FAOITHESDREAM on your betting slip at 7/1 with William Hill.
England are 20/1 to win the World Cup but at least they are there and Italy and Holland are not and the Republic of Ireland can also qualify tonight.
