Before the Premier League era every match in what was the First Division kicked off at 3pm on Saturday. The scores came through and by 5pm they were announced on television and radio. The football Pools were the most popular form of betting and the objective was to select eight matches that produced score draws. It’s rare for six fixtures in the top division to start at the traditional time but that is the case today.
The meetings between Arsenal and Tottenham (12.30pm) and Manchester United and Newcastle (5.30pm) have been rescheduled for the purposes of live television. One of the most popular bets is the acca and there are few bankers in the 1500 hours kick-offs. Manchester City and Chelsea can win at odds-on away from home and Liverpool should have too much for Southampton at Anfield. Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Burnley are at the home and the TREBLE pays about 17/2 with bet365.
The Cheltenham November meeting has developed into the third most spectated jumps race meeting of the season after the Cheltenham Festival and Grand National meeting at Aintree. Crowds over the three days have more than doubled in the last 20 years and it is now a major racing occasion in its own right. The Festival in March is the pinnacle of the sport and the four days that matter most but this week’s occasion is catching up in terms of race goers that visit the track.
Today’s feature is the BetVictor Gold Cup (2.25pm) but there is also a decent supporting card. The race has been moved forward to lessen the chance of a low sun causing fences to be omitted. There is an interesting novices’ chase at 1.15pm and West Approach makes some interest on a second start over fences. The horse was useful over hurdles and the three pounds weight advantage should make WEST APPROACH hard to beat.
Roger Federer is a long odds-on shot to win the ATP World Tour Finals and shorter to beat David Goffin today in the semi-finals. The other last four match is a closer affair but should also go the way of the favourite. GRIGOR DIMITROV has never quite delivered on his potential but has the game on the surface to beat Jack Sock so must be backed at 11/20 with Betfair.
