The Progressive stayer Ormito (33/1) is under consideration for the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster on the fourth and final day of the Ladbrokes St Leger Festival, Ladbrokes St Leger Day, Saturday, September 10.

The Andrew Balding-trained colt ran a career best last time out when staying on strongly to take second, beaten a length and a quarter, behind older rival Kings Fete in the G3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes over a mile and five furlongs at Newbury on August 13.

Ormito, who is owned by Richard Morecombe and former trainer Lynda Ramsden, filled the same position behind subsequent G3 scorer Ventura Storm (33/1) (Richard Hannon) in the Listed Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton in July and, earlier in the season, finished third in both the Listed Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood and the G3 Chester Vase.

Balding said: “I am very happy with Ormito. He ran a nice race in the Geoffrey Freer and has come out of the race fine.”

“Plans are still very much fluid at the moment, but the Ladbrokes St Leger is certainly an option.”

“The other race we are looking at is the G2 Prix Chaudenay at Chantilly on Arc weekend. There is a possibility he could run in both, but I think we will do one or the other.”

Ormito, a 33/1 chance with Ladbrokes, was one of 25 acceptors for the world’s oldest Classic, worth a record £700,000 and run over one mile, six furlongs and 132 yards, earlier this week.

Irish Derby runner-up Idaho (Aidan O’Brien) heads the ante-post betting market at Evens with Ladbrokes on the back of a decisive victory in the G2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York on August 17. The 12-furlong contest is a good pointer to Doncaster with Milan (2001), Rule Of Law (2004) and Lucarno (2007) all doing the double since the turn of the century.

There is a £50,000 supplementary entry stage for the Ladbrokes St Leger on Monday, September 5, when the five-day acceptors will also be unveiled.

Ladbrokes St Leger – Ladbrokes prices: Evens Idaho; 10/1 Muntahaa, Red Verdon; 14/1 Housesofparliament, Sword Fighter, Wings Of Desire; 16/1 Algometer; 20/1 Twilight Payment; 33/1 Ormito, Robin Of Navan, Somehow, Ventura Storm; 40/1 Harbour Law, Marmelo, Pretty Perfect, The Major General; 50/1 Arya Tara, Harrison, Kellstorm; 66/1 Cook Islands, Goldmember, Knights Table, Triplicate, Unicorn; 100/1 The Tartan Spartan.

Quiet Reflection is fully expected to run a big race at Haydock on Saturday in the 32Red Sprint Cup run over 6f.
