And so today we welcome a new or at least new name for a racecourse as Great Leighs returns now as Chelmsford.
I was a regular visitor to the old place and though the facilities were basic shall we say the actual track was superb.
Many a Newmarket Trainer and jockey would tell me that it was their favourite of all the Sand tracks so I have nothing against it personally my problem is that it’s more racing.
The facts of the matter are that owners are ageing and declining in numbers and yet the Bookmakers and the BHA want more racing. So there are less owners which means less horses yet more meetings and now more tracks. Oh hang on The Don has just twigged why we have small fields everywhere with falling each way betting opportunities.
Less fixtures, I personally would cut fixtures by a quarter, would ensure bigger fields and more revenue not endless dross. I hope logic begins to take hold in the corridors of power a first for racing.
I was talking to someone involved at a high level over Xmas and he told me there are several more All Weather Tracks that have been mooted, give us strength!!
I see Andy Bell is looking forward to revisiting our Cheltenham Festival Challenge, given how it panned out for him and how it panned out for my bank balance then believe not half as much as I am. What I will say is that anyone who joined it made big big money at even reasonable stakes with many making much more. The real winners were the members and me of course. Start form reading now maybe Andrew, you must have finished your book by now! Or at least colouring it in.
Lets go to Chelmsford and the big race for our Sunday Special at 2.50 pm. Anonymous John is the bet at 4/1 with Betvictor. Trainer Dave Evans is in great form and teams up with John Egan who is riding as well as ever and can boot this one home.

Dell Arca – David Pipe
There was a big word for this one all week but he jumped badly at key stages and jockey Scudamore gave up. Brought back to two miles on better ground and back in trip to two miles there is a big handicap in this horse.
Join me in 2015 and beware of imitations join the best and Trust in the Don.
Back next Sunday.
