Well Cheltenham Trials Day, let’s see who got found guilty!
Firstly the course was in terrific nick and a good crowd turned out with all eyes on Peace and Co in the first the ante post fave for the Triumph Hurdle.
I hadn’t seen him before but he looked big and strong and very fit, he was clear pick of the paddock. The Nicholl’s runner here a French import looked big and badly in need of this which is rare from this yard at this time of year.
Peace and Co nearly pulled Geraghty’s arms off and clearly hasn’t learnt to settle since his debut. Though he won these weren’t world beaters and unless he learns quick he will struggle to win at the Festival. Jokers that they are the Bookmakers cut him to 7/4 after this. If you take that price you want your head examining.
Many Clouds won the Gold Cup Trial making all which both pleased and sickened the Don as he had it down as between this and the Giant Bolsterer and you’ve guessed which one he tipped. The Bolsterer was woeful and though every time you write this one off he returns to haunt you. It looks like the hard races are catching up with him.
Many Clouds had to prove he acted at Cheltenham which he certainly did in no uncertain style. He really is a serious player in the Gold Cup now and he has put Oliver Sherwood back on the map. Dynaste never got up the hill as I suspected he wouldn’t and will surely drop back to defend his Ryan Air Title over two miles five at the Festival. I think David felt it was worth seeing if the horse got the trip he now knows he doesn’t.
I’m over to Ireland today for what should be the second day in a row of Festival clues including what appears to be round 28 of Hurricane Fly v Jezki but our bet goes in the Grade Two Novice Hurdle at 3.15. No More Heroes is a hugely exciting Novice from the Gordon Elliot yard and he can take this on his way to the Festival. Take the 11/8 with Sportingbet as he will be backed heavy this afternoon.
The Festival Markets are taking shape and I hope Mr Bell fresh from his OAP jaunt to Malta is feeling refreshed and ready for battle as the Don is already very confident of beating my Festival profits from last year, it’s nearly showtime, different year but same result!
From the Dons Notebook
Beaten yesterday but don’t be fooled that was the trip, he looked better than ever and with a break will come back and be very difficult to beat at the Festival but he must be in the 2 mile five race.
Have a great Sunday. Join my private service we’ve made good profits this January and will build towards the Festival, trust in the Don!
Back next Sunday.
