A brilliant Newmarket July Festival finished yesterday with Muhaarer claiming the showpiece event the Group 1 July Cup.
This horse has been a real money spinner for my private members who are enjoying a cracking start to July with nearly 40 points on the board. We backed him in the Greenham and at Ascot and I told all my clients yesterday morning that we were not going to desert him yesterday and filled our boots with a max bet.
Hannagan brought him with a well timed burst to get up on the line with many of the fancied horses nowhere. The sky’s the limit for this horse now and a Stallion career beckons. I hope he stays in training next year because he is a stunning horse to view and has boosted the Dons bank balance.
He has been underrated but won’t be now. His style of running shows he loves to bounce off very fast ground and we won’t see him run on any other surface.
Amazing Maria on Friday provided David O’Meara with a group 1 winner and The Dons followers with an 11/1 winner. Aggressively ridden she held them all off in the Falmouth and looks to me like she could be stepped up in trip. A tilt at the Juddmonte International over an extra two furlongs would be where I would send this rapidly improving mare.
The crowds were solid this week and I urge anyone who hasn’t been to come racing to the July course. It’s smaller and friendlier than our other track and everything is easy to see from the pre parade to the the actual track and always is a lovely atmosphere.
The usual diet of Sunday jumps today but to be fair Stratford are staging a decent card and I’m taking Penny up there to one of our favourite jumping tracks.
The bet of the day has to be El Massivo in the 3.25 and the 100/30 with Bet365 should be gobbled up. He won here with real authority last time and will take plenty of stopping today.
Goodwood beckons and my service is hitting top form. Don’t stand there on the sidelines get involved!
Trust in the Don he is Newmarket’s Number 1
Back next Sunday.
