The Gambling Don

July 19, 2015 By admin Leave a Comment

Yesterday was spent at my local course the July Course at Newmarket.

On my way in I stopped to sign not one but two petitions which although delayed my entry to the course I felt morally bound to sign.

The first petition was for Andy Bell to emigrate full time to Malta and the second was to deny Malta internet access. Please sign both if you get the chance, together we can make a difference!

On course in the members bar all anyone wanted to talk about was the strange decision of Richard Hughes to retire and the end of Goodwood not the end of the season as was his plan. Most people found Hughes claim that he hadn’t realised how much preparation was needed to set up his Training yard about as believable as the dog ate my homework Sir.

Hughes is the son of a brilliant Trainer and has been around this game all his life so he knew exactly what was needed. I have felt for weeks that his position as Stable Jockey to Richard Hannon was untenable as some owners don’t seem to want him on their horses and they pay the bills. His riding has been shall we say erratic this season and it’s rather sad to see a Champion Jockey leave the stage with a whimper.

It will be interesting to see how he gets on Training, he’s no fool and will have learnt from his Father and from his years with the Hannons. Despite that owners are thin on the ground and this is no easy time to start a Training operation with many current Trainers struggling. Watch this space!

Redcar is not a place I visit or a place I bet at often but it does provide the days best bet amongst a diet of Summer Jumps (well it is Sunday) Michael Dodds is having another fine season and his Half a Billion in the 4.10 looks worthy of a win bet at 8/1 with Bet365. Every drop of rain will play into his favour here while it will be against many of these.

Join me as Goodwood is round the corner and I will be at the track all week giving you the very best bets.

Have a great Sunday.

The Gambling Don he’s the petition signing number 1

Back next Sunday.
