As you may all know I often flag up trainers that are looking like turning out winners in the next week or so. I find that the trainers who hit form usually do so with a vengeance and several winners follow on from that yard. Just one thing which is nothing to do with the trainers I am highlighting but watch every horse of Paul Midgeley over sprints when he puts up jockey Dougie Costello… another one yesterday in the last at Newmarket at 4/1.
Anyway one lady running into form is Julie Camacho who has a tendency to win with the older horses. Cast offs you cry? Possibly when other trainers cannot be bothered( I know that from my experience as an owner) a lady like Julie and her staff revive them and getting their interest back and persuading the horse to give its best again. Julie’s dad Maurice was the same sort of guy and knew the time of day with the older horses. You see every horse gets its chance eventually from handicapper and the trainer needs to get the horse at a peak to seize the opportunity. There are a couple of runners for the yard. Majestic Stone and Dalton should both be of interest this week after encouraging runs recently… don’t be scared if you don’t think their last run was poor… that’s how this yard does it. I would not be surprised if Kirkham put up a better display in the coming days. Treat Julie’s runners and entries with respect.
Nicky Henderson is still powering along with his team and overall I think the ones he has in summer training are firing on all cylinders. The last form figures recently are 11011222051 that is quite some going with five winners and three seconds from eleven runners as I write. Nicky runs L’Ami Serge at Auteil on Sunday but later in the week I am very interested in French Crusader at Southwell the horse won at Towcester without coming off the bridle. Should be one to follow. Cool Macavity is set for a Summer campaign and Nicky has this 10 year old entered up in coming days. Henderson’s stable should be observed very carefully whilst in such splendid form.
Michael Bell still has his string running well and running above his normal wins to runners ratio at this time of year. Main Desire was a very notable winner for Michael at York at the Dante Meeting last week. Michael has made a good start with his 2 year olds as well and Nuremberg will need looking at in the market if making his debut this coming week. This trainer can ‘ get one ready’ as we say. Flying Sparkle and Arabian Jazz warrant respect in their entries from this yard… both could win in the coming days.
Overall ignore Michael Bell and his entries/runners and you could be very disappointed.
High Roller is in decent form and winners this week include four winners from six bets as I write.
SHUMOOKIE WON 5/4, HARRY ANGEL WON 4/5, MONSIEUR GIBRALTAR WON 4/6 and JUST A FEELING WON 11/8.
Our other two selections were Citadel at Sedgefield who was in contention when falling two fences out. Nordic Passage was second.
