I won’t repeat myself as I have the last two weeks about the weather and the ground as I think form lines are starting to settle down a little and the job of finding winners has eased somewhat. Having said that I have the wonderful duty of taking family to our local track at Wetherby this Saturday. I am of course expected to make it a winning day for everyone and they expect a tip in every race. We do this every year and although the expectation is always there I never quite live up to those expectations!
The problem is that I don’t know a single person in this business that can make a profit by betting through the whole card at a meeting. I’ve been to meetings where I’ve only had to get one bet down and that’s it. I’ve even on rare occasions not bet at all because conditions have changed. So twice a year (once at the Charlie Hall meeting and the other at Cheltenham New Year meeting) I take my family and the wife racing and every year they expect to bet in every race. I always forget that we’re supposed to be there for a fun day out and I guess that will always be in my blood.
My point then is that you can’t, if serious about making a profit in your betting, bet through the card. I appreciate that for a fun day it’s almost necessary to get involved in every race and hope to win some money. Of course my wife thinks I’m a miserable b*st*rd and she’s probably right 😉
My main bet this Saturday will be one of two and I’m waiting for the day to decide how the ground will look for the Charlie Hall Chase at 3.35(I’m back to that subject again!). I’m hoping that the ground will touch on the heavier side so that if it’s still about the 7/1 about Cape Tribulation will be a cracking bet. Even Big Fella Thanks could be a bet at a massive price should he be able to re-capture some of his old form. I won’t be in the Long Run camp and the 5/4 about a horse that has never won on his seasonal debut and has never ran at this track is a ridiculously short price and the bookies will be looking to lay this all day from what I can see. People are piling into Unioniste but again 10/3 about a horse that looks to have too much weight to bear is too short. A bit more rain and we should see an upset in the market and I’ll be looking to exploit this. Of course my wife will probably bet on First Lieutenant because she likes the colour purple. Oh dear she may as well bet through the card 😉
It’s the last day of the month today and no matter how my tip gets on we end our 16th consecutive month in profit. It’s a brilliant achievement to not only all the hard work of my contacts and my own analysis but we’ve managed to turn a profit in what has been a notoriously difficult month to. I have no plans of letting this service go on without making some serious profits and I promise that my wife won’t be picking out any tips!!
I’ll be back next week with more thoughts and ways of the racing world. Until then have a great weekend.
