RACE FIXING.
What chance does the honest bloke in the street have at winning money as a living when backing horses – difficult conversation to talk about.
Where shall we start !!
Frankie Dettori, for drug taking, received a 6 month ban but we still dont know what drugs he actually took. When hearing about the news concerning Frankie, it was easy to put two and two together and come up with five in my opinion. At the time Frankie was being released because he had become weak in a finish and if Godolphin bought in a stronger jockey they would have won more races. Instead it’s announced that Frankie Dettori has been given a 6 month ban by the French Jockey Club. After hearing this news I then understood the reasons behind why Godolphin had to release Frankie from his contract.
Recently we hear of news about former jockeys Andrew Heffenan and James Coppinger. The bettors Kelly Inglis, Yogesh Joshee Douglas Shelly, Pravin Shingadia, Michael Chopra and Mark Wilson. The fixer / placer of bets Paul Garner, who back then worked with Alan McCabe. They were using “Inside Information”.
Alan McCabe had no ideas about the crooked activity which surrounded his stable. The three horses involved were all trained by that stable…

The crime was backing these horses to lose.
Now, backing horses to lose on Betfair is legal. However when placing a bet to lay/lose and you’re the owners, stable staff, trainer or connected to them, then surely this cannot be allowed. A normal punter on Betfair backing/laying is fine because he does not have access to the inside stable information.
This sport will never be free of race fixing. Paul Doe and Greg Fairley both received a 12 year ban. Jimmy Quinn a six month ban. Kirsty Milczarek-appealed hers. Owners Maurice “Fred” Sins and James Crickmore got 14 years each. kirsty was accused on a non-trier OBE GOLD.
From across the water we hear about the drug cartell in Mexico…
“WERE THEY FIXED THE FUTURITY STAKES HELD AT RUIDOSO DOWNS AND IS BETTER KNOW AS THE KENTUCKY DERBY IN 2010. JOCKEY MIGUEL ANGEL TREVIRIO MORALES AGED 38. Charged with race fixing and money laundering-all with drug money.”
We will never get rid of horses being pulled by there jockeys whilst prize money remains so low. Let’s not forget the many horses who go into training and are simply no good, they will struggle to win a class 6 or median auction race.
If racing was down to form…….. everybody would win and we would have no bookmakers.
Lets just hope when we place our next bet it’s given every chance of winning…. RACING IS TAKING IN A NEW WAVE OF BETTOR. Especially as we have Betfair to back and lay.
When adding costs- training a horse, vet bills, food, fuel etc.. if the race is worth 1200 to the winner then it is then split…
Jockey gets 10%, the stable gets their percentage and then the owner gets his share. It’s down to the jockey club and bookmakers to sit down and discuss prize money. I personally believe if every race is a minimun of 5k for winner then more horses would be trying and it would certainly be more difficult for the handicappers when ajusting weights.
