Since the change in the HC SYSTEM many runners have struggled and have simply had to step down in grade to a claimer or seller.
Several seasons ago you would never see horses rated in the 90s running in bloody claimers – suicidal!!
Now trainers are having there hands forced and that’s where I believe the average person can now afford to get involved within horse racing, “the sport of kings”.
Prize money has not moved along with inflation, when first visited the racetrack it would cost me say a fiver. That was back in the early 80’s and thirty odds years later the prize money is still the same, apart from races which attract the big sponsors, unfortunately for the owners.
WHY DO THEY DO IT !!!
SIMPLE FOR THE PURE LOVE OF THE SPORT AND IN THE HOPE THAT ONE DAY THEY CAN HAVE A GROUP WINNER OF A CLASSIC OR A BIG RACE HC AT ROYAL ASCOT.
Whatever happens the trainer gets paid, along with the jockey, wether the horse wins or loses.
I personally believe I could purchase a racehorse and recoup all costs back by having a successful racing syndicate as I’ve seen some decent horse running in these claimer/seller races.
Purchase say a £10k runner and then send the horse abroad where prize money is huge.
The HC here penalise a horse for losing if they are a constant performer, a runner can go from a rating 78 not winning a race throughout the season and end it at a mark of around 86! Makes life very difficult for the trainer to place the horse.
It could be interesting if WIN or BetFan decided to get a syndicate together – being involved we would have that special knowledge of when the horse is bouncing and ready to win, causing real panic amongst the bookmaking world! Now that would be good news.
Maybe I will have a word with the guys over at admin to send an e-mail out to potential members to see who may want to get together and become a racehorse owner.
