Hi for those of you that are not familiar with my name I Mick McCormack and I have been a pro bettor for around three years now and a Tipster with the Betfan fan group since October.
Those of us who like a bet do it for varying different reasons whether that be for fun and entertainment or to boost our normal earnings so that you can afford those extra little things that make life a bit easier but as I said we do it for all different reasons.
For me I just had enough of the daily slog of going into work every day being told what to do and when, before I started betting for a living I was doing it to provide myself with a second income, and to build my betting bank up high enough that I could sustain a life doing what I loved without going to work. It basically took me around 5 years for me to build my bank up to a level that I was happy with so that I could give up full time work and be comfortable with the profit that I was making to sustain living my life as a full time professional bettor. Don’t get me wrong I still have to put in the hard work to sustain what I am doing but I can do it when I like without having to answer to anyone but myself.
So I’m writing this article to give a small in site to what my daily routine would consist of and give you an idea into what goes into being a Pro Bettor.
My days aren’t set in stone and can change from day to day but there are certain things that I need to do every day and they are worked around to make life a bit easier for me.
Typically around 0700hrs every day I will either get myself down the gym or out on my bicycle for about one hour. I like to keep myself fit and when your are sat in front of the computer most days it’s very easy to stuff your face with biscuits and buns, so for me my exercise is an integral part of my day and you will be surprised by the energy it gives you for the rest of the day.
Once that’s out of the way I get myself to the local coffee shop and grab a coffee and some breakfast and armed with the racing post and a pen I sit down and read up on any news and see if there is any interesting points of views of any of my selection I have already made for the day.
This typically takes me up til about 0900hrs by which time I then make my way back home to the office to start my days work. For me the start of my working day starts with writing reviews to be published at a later date , either articles on betting or reviews of other tipsters , for which I do for various different sites. This typically takes me around an hour to an hour and a half depending on the article that needs to written.
My next job is to record all my bets from the previous day, when I say record I mean I have to enter all the results and also I will look back at the races to see if there was anything in the runs that I could maybe watch out for in the future with regard to how a selection has run or not run even and match them up to my ratings to see if the rating are telling me what I need. This typically takes me up to the start of racing in the NH season but not quite in the summer.
At this point this is where my days can differ, some days I will crack open Bet trader and do some trading, but I don’t trade every day as it’s a very time consuming part of my portfolio, but I do like the odd day at it. So if I’m not trading I will devout some time to researching new systems to add to my portfolio, the reason for this is that I like to have multiple mini systems that all work together, to keep everything ticking along at a nice pace and don’t have to be reliant on any one system. This time is also spent reviewing systems to make sure they are working as expected .
This normally takes up until lunch and when lunch is done I get to have two to three hours me time just to relax or do the more boring things that need to be done, whether that be shopping or even cleaning, not every day for those two though, so basically just down times.
This normally brings me up to about fourish depending. I then get back in front of the computer and scour the internet to see if I can stumble across any new ideas for my betting or just generally check out racing stuff that may be of interest. I will check my facebook page and interact with my members and basically keep them up to date with how the days selections have been running and answer any questions posted if any. I will also check out any other bets I have made for the day and generally make any notes of things that may need to be looked at for the next day.
Again I now stop for my dinner and some more down time before I need to get onto my selections for the next day’s racing which starts around 2000hrs, this is because all my selections are based around ratings and my feed that I use for these aren’t normally ready until then and sometimes if have problems with these It has to be done later or even the next morning, if this is the case My next day will start earlier so that I can get the selections out for my members before the racing starts.
Generally though this is all done the night before for them and myself, so I start looking into my selections for the next day which can generally take me up until about 2200 – 2300hrs. So by finish time I will have placed most or all of my bets for the next day, so I don’t have to scratching aroun the next day for the best prices and the reason for this is I bet to betfair SP so basically once my bets are placed they I don’t have to worry about prices.
It’s safe to say that my days aren’t set in stone and I can basically change things to my needs and do as much or as little as I like when and where I like but I do work hard at keeping things in order and not to let my focus slip because as you can appreciate that this is my living and I need to keep control if I don’t make profit I don’t earn money.
In reality it can be a very rewarding life but it does have its ups and downs and with those it could become very stressful but I have learn’t over the years that as long as I keep my discipline I will always come out the other end fine and it’s not worth getting stressed.
The upshot of being a pro bettor is that with my timetables I can always adjust them and always have the time to spend with friends and family and look into other business streams.
I hope you have found this article interesting , it’s not a glamorous life but it is a rewarding life and I tend to go for a long time yet.
May all your betting days be fruitful and pleasurable.
