A BWR member recently contacted me to advise of a service to which he had subscribed and paid for but had not received anything in return. No welcome, no tips and certainly no profits. He wanted to try to make sure that other members did not get caught. Very laudable and just the sort of thing I am happy to investigate.
In this case we were looking at a re-run of a 2014 service where the name had been changed but the underlying details had not.
But the most critical element that I saw from the exchange with our member was that he did not appreciate that he had options that would allow him to obtain a refund of the money he had already paid over. He told me that the service had not replied to his emails asking for a refund despite the marketing offering an unconditional guarantee in the first 60 days.
Although many punters consider that if a service is promoted through Clickbank it is automatically poor they are possibly overlooking the strong protection that this payment portal offers. In general a Clickbank seller must offer his clients a 60 day guarantee on any purchases. If the buyer finds his purchase does not meet the claims made in the marketing then a refund may be sought at any time up to 60 days from purchase. The more reputable sellers will comply with a direct email request but many think they can just ignore such emails and will get away with it.
And quite a number of buyers just write off their investment and put it down to experience – this seems to be a part of the business model for services offered this way. The seller hopes that even if the buyer cancels he will not claim a refund of the initial cash paid.
Don’t let that person be you! Make sure you get you cash back if the service is not as stated. Here is your guide to achieving this.
Cancelling a subscription with Clickbank
a) Find your purchase receipt which was emailed when you joined the service.
b) Click on the link for Customer Service (highlighted on the screenshot)
c) Click on the Get Support Tab (highlighted top right)
d) On the resulting option screen you will see a menu with an option to cancel the sub (not shown on my screenshot as do not have any ongoing subs at the moment!)
e) Click on the cancel sub and you should then receive email confirming the ticket has been raised. It should be automatic from there but if the vendor comes back with a suggestion you keep going as an improvement is just around the corner or offers you an alternative service as a “bonus” just reply and say no thanks.
If you are within the 60 day period then go straight to the refund option as below.
Getting a refund with Clickbank
Follow steps a) b) and c) above but then select the refund button (highlighted) and just use the “I was not satisfied” reason for the refund request.
Do not try to berate the tipster just give the obvious reason and the system will be put in progress. Normally you will get your refund in a day or two but again if the tipster tries to dissuade you just reply saying that you are claiming under the 60 day guarantee offered and will escalate the matter to Clickbank if a refund is not now made.
If any more prevarication then use the option to escalate which will appear if you select “Other” from the drop down menu.
Non Clickbank Services
Unless you are able to verify the service is genuine then ask us to check it out before you part with any cash. But if you have subscribed then follow any refund instructions advised on the sign up page (try to keep a screenshot as evidence) and be firm but polite in your request. Insulting anybody is only likely to increase their reluctance to help you so avoid the temptation to be rude.
Many services will specifically exclude the possibility of a refund and although you may have some protection under the Distance Selling rules the onus is going to be on you to prove that they should refund rather than the other way around. It is always a good policy to pay with a credit card so that any protection under the Consumer Credit Act will apply. If you can demonstrate that the service was not as advertised then the credit card company may well agree to chargeback the seller and refund your cash. (More details on chargebacks generally may be found here)
Always let us know about rogue services and tipsters because we can alert other members and save them cash. Just drop an email to us on firstname.lastname@example.org and we will do the rest.
But above all make sure you do not leave any of your cash with a service when it would be so much better in your pocket.
