Day 3 of the great end of season Punchestown jamboree sees what must be the most anticipated race of the whole week, the clash between the mighty Quevega and this years top staying hurdler Solwhit in the 5.50 Ladbrokes world Series hurdle.
When it was announced Big Bucks was out for the season then it looked like this season was going to be something of a damp squid in the staying hurdle department, Solwhit however under the expert guidance of Charles Byrnes has returned to hurdling after injury and a disappointing chasing career to remind us all what a class act he is.
He won well at Cheltenham but was even more impressive at Aintree under Paul Carberry when he was mightily impressive. Quevega has a huge task on her hands today after scrambling home at Cheltenham to win the Mares only race. This is much tougher than that and she will need to be on her game to repel Solwhit. We also have the talented but shall we say quirky Reve de Sivola running who will love this return to softer ground and Holywell who ran a cracker at Aintree and looks very big at 16/1.
With more of a relaxed feel and party atmosphere the Punchestown festival certainly takes some beating and when you throw in a mouth watering clash like this it really takes some beating. Make sure you are watching at 5.50!
My stableline gold members are betting in a different race today and it’s a big price! There’s still time to get in on the action and make it a great Festival, enjoy everyone!
Back next Thursday.
