Paddy Power Week
Saturday, our day was going so well when OPEN EAGLE bolted up by 12 lengths in the November Handicap, you won’t see an easier handicap winner all year and we had all backed him at 12/1. We were now waiting for VICTOIRE DE LYPHAR, in the next, at 22/1 for an absolutely massive 12/1 and 22/1 double. As soon as the gates opened unfortunately our fate was sealed as VICTOIRE was rearing up and was soon trailing the field by 15 lengths, I’m gutted and things don’t get any better as he runs on like a train and is the only horse finishing and just misses out on a place, I’m not saying he would of won, but boy he would of been very close and would of at the very least secured us a big ew double.
Sunday morning, We arrive at Ebfleet to catch the eurostar across to France for a day out, with all my work and calls done, I just have to finish my emails on arrival in Paris.
As soon as we hit the platform I quickly email out my days selections. The Evan Williams stable are forgetting the last runs of CAPILLA and think the 5/1 ew is a steal. Finally I put up a win double LETSBESO and a buzzer from the good Doctor, Newland, JAYO TIME.
Paris is really nice and thankfully the weather has been very kind, the only problem is it’s full of French.
I must say the Paris underground, or the Metro puts ours to shame, it’s so easy to understand and stops in all the right places. Past experience tells me to steer clear of the Eiffel Tower as its full of touts selling their cheap wears and I definitely give the Arc De Triomphe a wide berth as I have climbed the steps once before and believe me that is unforgettable.
I do pop in the Louvre and I must say their Mona is more appealing and captivating than our very own betfan one, the Grumbling Don.
Funny this, I just happen to know a cracking Chinese restaurant just off the Champs-Elysees. It’s magnificent, the floors are all glass as are the walls, with an under water world beneath your feet, with the most fantastic looking coy carp swimming without a care in the world. The food is outstanding and surprisingly the prices are reasonable enough.
The day has flown past and we are soon doing our captain Nemo impressions and heading back to old Blighty, full of the joys of gay Paris, that doesn’t sound good does it heheheh.
I must appologise that when my selections went out yesterday LETSBESO had already been declared a non runner, but I can take solace that surely everybody backed my second leg of the double the very, very easy winner JAYO TIME. It was nice to have a day off and hopefully everybody in my absence had a winning one, I expect my Facebook page will be full of moans about the Nr and not a mention of the winner, hey ho that’s life.
Although CHURCH HALL hasn’t shown a great deal since winning this race last year, the 12/1 looks a tasty ew proposition so I bet him and email out the same. What could make our 12/1 look better is the big negative I have received regarding the unproven and inexperience favourite in the race.
With such a big weekend approaching, coupled with a day off yesterday I am going to start work on the Paddy Power, Cheltenham cards this weekend. As a norm we always do very well at this meeting and also we gain a lot of pointers for next years festival.
CHURCH HALL doesn’t add to our slowly growing monthly profit, to my eye he looked in need of the run, but we were spot on regarding the favourite as he never even got a place.
5pm and I decide to put up an anti-post bet at Cheltenham in the Paddy Power itself. CAID DE BERLAIS is only a baby at 5 years old but already he has a very good cv. He is trading at 25/1 with Bet365 so I email him out to my members. I am disgusted and more so should be a so called multi million pound operation as Bet £3-65, they moan the exchanges are taking all their customers, can you wonder at it, with out their fleecing roulette machines to hide behind as bookmakers they are useless and a joke, as my tip hit my members at 5:07pm and by 5:11pm Bet £3-65 cut their price to 20/1. This is not a Micky mouse race it’s the biggest race so far this jumps season, shocking trading.
Mr Jolly and I are off to Huntingdon today and meeting my buddy and new Betfan tipster, Kevan Minter aka The Colonel. I understand he has made a steady start, but a nice and profitable one, which is the main aim.
ACCORDINGTOSCRIPT who has won his last two races, the stable are very confident that he has another win in him today.
Whilst in the owners and trainers bar I was told , by trust me, somebody that really does know that SIGN OF VICTORY will not take his chance in the Greatwood hurdle on Sunday as their No 1 for the race is VENITEUX. A race has been ear marked for SIGN OF VICTORY in two weeks and we will be on.
Unfortunately ACCORDINGTOSCRIPT’s run came to an abrupt end today and I was told that he sadly broke a blood vessel.
After the race I am kicking myself as I was told that Nicky Henderson was very sweet on his VOLNAY DE THAIX and I didn’t do anything about it, either for my services or myself and stood there and watch it bolt in hard on the steel. We need to back him when he goes to Haydock on the 22nd as long as the handicapper isn’t too harsh on him.
We leave before the last and head back into the sticks with a happy and winning Mr Jolly.
A very quiet day and I am going to concentrate on Exeter.
ALBEROBELLO at 12/1 ew seems to be very well fancied and should get us a place at the very least.
Not much happening today and the racing isn’t any more inspiring to be honest.
ALBEROBELLO looks like winning the race jumping the last and I am totally amazed that he is most annoyingly ran out of a place. I am gutted a 12/1 place at least has gone begging.
I’m catching the 8:10am train to York today to complete my book deal. I wonder if Simon Holden will finally have a beer waiting for me at the station bar as he must surely be running out of excuses for not being there to meet me, the last one was so sad, he thought I arrived at 12:30 not 11:30am, yea, yea. I wonder if today he will be bleaching, sorry washing his hair.
As I land sure enough he is not there and arranges to meet me in town with Steve the publisher. We have our meeting and we are going to be on sale as from the 1st December. It’s quite exciting actually having your own book published and I am really looking forward to it, send you orders in now to www.betfan.com and I will sign you all a copy.
We backed ZULU OSCAR heavily last time out when he fell at the first, which disappointed Harry frys mother because she had hired a box for herself and all her cronies as they thought he was a certainty and allegedly didn’t speak to her son for a week after his defeat. Today as I have put him up as a maximum bet for the LATE SERVICE, so I put him in an ew double with LASER HAWK on my ANDY BELLs service.
Today I am going to have my first alcoholic drink for two weeks and the dirty deed is done in Missoula, after only two I can amazingly start to feel the effects.
ZULU OSCAR does exactly what we expected and bolts up and is destined for much better things. LASER HAWK has me and the stable puzzled as he didn’t find as we expected after travelling superbly, the jury is now out to whether he now needs 2 1/2 miles or 3. I think after his great point to point form he is still one to persevere with.
My book meeting has gone very well, the LATE SERVICE has landed a maximum bet, I have had my first alcoholic drink, the only downside or downsides actually is Simon is now a manic depressive after a few beverages and I personally have had a losing day.
We finish a quiet night at the Red Chilli Chinese restaurant and have a great seafood meal and the fab lolly on the way back to the Queens hotel is the perfect finish.
It’s absolutely pouring with rain and I am just passing scotch corner on my way to Newcastle races. I was heading to Cheltenham today, but a contact wanted to meet me up there and I think we will all benefit immensely so it should be a worthwhile trip.
A nice quirk of fate as I have just had some very strong information regarding MONTOYAS SON who is running in the 1:40 at Newcastle and for once Corals are the biggest price at 7/4, so I quickly pass this hot information on to my clients.
Olly Stevens has HEISMAN running at Lingfield who is trading at 11/10 and I decide to put him up as another maximum on the LATE SERVICE.
We arrive at Newcastle and the whether is disgusting, so much so there are rumours circling that there could be an inspection after the first race. Fortunately the days racing survive, but it’s certainly not a day for paddock watching so I plant myself in front of the TV in the nice little downstairs owners and trainers bar.
Keith Dalglish ten minutes before the race decides that the going is unsuitable for MONTOYAS SON and withdraws him. So all the way to Newcastle without a bet today. I have had a maximum bet at 11/10 on HEISMAN at Lingfield and unusually for Jamie Spencer the instructions are to jump him out and be bang up there. Thankfully he has listened and does everything that is expected of him and wins going away and landing us all a maximum bet.
I am staying just outside Newcastle in a travel lodge so I am only an hour and a half from Wetherby tomorrow.
Free tip today and oh boy have I got one for us. I am leaving for Wetherby at 10-30 as we have another early start, but trust me I will be planted in front of the TVs to ensure I don’t miss a hoof beat at Cheltenham.
2:30 Cheltenham PRESENT VIEW 7/1 ew William Hill 5 places.
