Sunday 11th. With my colours firmly attached to LOVING SPIRIT in the Victoria cup, as the immense confidence was portrayed to me in no uncertain terms, I had my biggest bet of the flat season on him ew at 16/1 and 14/1 so far. All connected and close just could not contemplate him being out of the first 5 and were expecting much better. He had been trained with this race in mind all pre season and this was meant to be his day in the sun and a nice touch for a small stable.
I put him up as a maximum ew bet to all my ANDY BELL members and also wore my heart on my sleeve as I put him up as my free column bet.
The form figures were not impressive on my next selection, GREEN WIZARD at Haydock, well pretty dismal in fact, but Steve confirms he has had immense schooling in the last few weeks and if able to keep on his feet will go very well.
Finally the clever Don Cantallon has AS I AM running also at Haydock and if the young apprentice can get his fractions right, as he will lead, he is also expected to go close at 16/1, if it’s not to soft.
On such a busy Saturday the late service has two bets that come through, the Clive Cox trained HASSLE and John Gosdens GATEWOOD ew at 13/2.
GATEWOOD under a good ride from Frankie starts off our busy day brilliantly as he wins well at a very well backed 4/1 making all our 13/2 look a steal. Better to come as HASSLE also wins at 9/4 and gives the LATE BETTING SERVICE a super Saturday and making 49 points.
LOVING SPIRIT absolutely bombs out and with no apparent excuses, unless the ground had gone to soft after a pre race downpour. GREEN WIZARDS schooling has in fact helped as he jumps a good confidence boosting clear round and nicks us a 7/1 place.
AS I AM is pulled out as the ground is deemed to soft, so another day awaits him.
Today we back ABSOLUTE SHAMBLES and the lightly raced, John Fergusson trained MEMORABILIA and also put them in an ew double.
Ludlow. Memorabilia ferguson, lightly raced, super time 5/1.
GEOFFREY CHAUCER is the selection I put up on the LATE BETTING SERVICE as I am told this is now the number two Derby hope behind AUSTRALIA.
Not a good day at the office as both my ew selections are the aggravating fourth and GEOFFREY CHAUCER should of won, but had no room at all and finished a very unlucky third.
Monday 12th. I arrive at the airport to fly home this morning, after a week in Malta with my Father and Pauline, I haven’t mentioned it before, because I got a few snide remarks from punters that were and are under the impression that they are solely paying for my holidays, they were and are in a very small sense, I agree, but surely correct me if I’m wrong, with over 400 points profit for the ANDY BELL clients in less than a subscription year, at just a pony a point (£25) that’s a cool 10 grand tax free and I hasten to add, THE LATE BETTING service has contributed another 250ish points profit (£25) that’s another 7.5 grand in less than six months and I can assure you that I bet all my selections and a pony a point is far below my average stake, for all my clients that makes it SEVENTEEN AND A HALF GRAND and more for me personally, so surely I’m paying for your holidays and you don’t hear me complaining, I’m genuinely happy for you all. Of course, if for the very small majority of you, if the real reason is that ones spunked it on ones own selections and are in a BAD mood and dare not tell the WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH to the wife or partner than obviously poor old Andy Bell is the fall guy and has to take the brunt, which I fully understand and can go alone with, as in my younger days done it and I have been there.
Enough of that, all I want and 99.9% of my clients, people who know me closely and many others, is that if everybody wins and enjoy the spoils I’m very happy.
Today we are going with the John Ryan trained OCEAN TEMPEST at 2/1 and ridden by the man Adam Kirby.
In the dreaded smarty pot now for 3ish hours, which isn’t my favourite place as you all know, so the four glasses of wine will hopefully help. For once the flight isn’t too bad and the Italian trolley dolly’s are great looking, which is a nice distraction.
We land at a windy, cold and rainy Stansted, but my day is soon brightened as Adam gives OCEAN TEMPTEST a cool ride and we hit good old blighty running.
Tuesday 13th. Nice to pop a winner in last night, which is a nice confidence booster with such a busy week ahead. We are setting off for York at lunch time with a view to arriving about tea time, which will give me time to book in, unpack and settle in and be as fresh as a daisy in the morning with all my form ready. I must admit I am very concerned about the going, as I don’t trust the going reports in the least, so tomorrow morning I will also walk the course myself and I can gauge the going by how far the high heels I have borrowed off Simon Holden sinks in lol.
Nothing to back during the day, but Hunter Steve has two big bets lined up for us tonight both at Southwell. POPAWAY in the 6-00 clock and later on the Newmarket trained BROUGHTONS WARRIOR. I decide to back POPAWAY singularly and than double it with BROUGHTONS WARRIOR. As I, shouldn’t and very seldom do, I also put up BROUGHTONS WARRIOR on the LATE BETTING SERVICE as in all the eyes of who’s who this is too good to miss.
POPAWAY kicks our evening betting off wonderfully as he wins oh so easily. I meet Simon The Rock in the revamped living room and settle to have a couple of quiet beers until he suggests that we go down the cocktail route as it’s two for one, I am not overly impressed but allow him to twist my arm. Race time and BROUGHTONS is always very well placed, until he gets pushed back into 5th on the home turn, my heart sinks as personally as I have had a right swing at this and also a real nice double pending. He soon recovers and wins with consummate ease. Between my two services we have netted over 60 points profit and had a right touch which does not bode well for my quiet first night.
We have a table booked at the now infamous restaurant “The Waterfront” with the even more infamous chef and owner Richard. He greets us from the steaming kitchen door as we enter and duly informs us he has hardly any food and in his famous Yorkshire accent moans that he is tired. The Dante hasn’t even started and Richards cupboards are bare and he is ready for bed.
He convinces me that his Tomahawk steaks are good, which I must confess are not top of my ordering list or even knowing list. The Rock has his T bone and we have a bottle of Chablis. Next time I hope he doesn’t give me the handle of the tomahawk , but he does do me sauté potatoes and by now is quite jovial. A bulls blood is the next choice of libation and things are boiling very nicely. The Rock doesn’t let me forget about my super winning evening as Blondie slips the bill on the table. We bid our farewells to Richard, who is shouting about Smarties Moviesta tomorrow, no chance in this soft ground I think. Look out York tomorrow as I feel in form after two cracking winning days.
Wednesday 14th. First day of the usually very informative Dante meeting and thankfully the weather is shaping up nicely. A very funny start as I walk through the gates, Simon the rock Holden is profusely sweating and I suggest he joins the always red faced Jim Goldie under the horse water spray cooler, then he tries to bullshit me into believing it’s sun block. As I attempt to enter the trainers bar I am told I have to wear a tie, so I don’t bother and head for the champagne area, where yes you have to wear a tie, I can’t remember this from my many previous visits. A bit snookered now so I get directions to buy one, the best choice is a stripy one which clashes a tad with my stripy shirt. With my now traffic light look, which matches the rocks very pink sun lotion head.
I have had a huge word for MADAM CHIANG in the Musidora stakes, the Simcock team have told me this is their Oaks filly and at 10/1 I advise my ANDY BELL clients to get on ew.
At 25/1 the front running STORM KING looks to bigger price for his relatively new trainer, so I also include this in my selections and suggest a small ew double on the two to kick off day 1.
All my bets placed and the rock appears supporting a silver bucket and some bubbles, never wishing to disappoint I gratefully except.
As the grumbling Don passes in his long overcoat, can you believe that, he mutters some choice words in our general direction and disappears.
The lawns are covered with lots of white skin which is slowing turning pinkish, the rock did kindly offer to rub his sun lotion forehead on a blondes legs for her, she smiled and declined his kind offer.
STORM KING does lead as we thought he would, but at a suicidal pace and ultimately pays the penalty and fades away to the rear.
King Kieren is always travelling very sweetly on MADAM CHIANG and as soon as he sees daylight he powers through and wins nicely and in doing so nets us a lovely 10/1 winner and sets us up with a great winning day on day 1.
After the race, it is confirmed that she will take her chance in the Oaks if the going is softish. I don’t think she is good enough to trouble our LATE BETTING SERVICE clients Ante post bet at 10/1 on TAGROODA, which is now 5/2.
The ice bucket is replenished and amazingly a steaming Grumbling Don appears awash in sweat, as Penny is not to be seen, I wonder if he has been using his world war 2 binoculars to look more in the lawn direction than the course. He steams up to the bar and amazingly reappears with a……….. bottle????? no way Pedro, a glass, he is priceless, but we do have to laugh.
My tie is now hanging round and looks much better around the brunettes neck than it ever could round mine. The Rock and The Don are having an in depth discussion about, it can’t be fashion, maybe binoculars or overcoats, who cares, I leave them to it.
First day of York and I walk out head held high as I know I have nailed it with a 10/1 winner and made all my clients money and can have a drink knowing that we have now had three winning days on the trot.
No Richards booked tonight and the Living Room is the first port of call. The Rocks face is now redder than ever as his get pissed quick cocktail plan falls flat on its face, as he boldly orders us all one and hehehehe on race days, it’s not two for one and he has copped a £70 round. lol.
As we have a major days work tomorrow and the BETFAN tower boys are coming the rest of the evening passes without incident and the only thing that accompanies me home is the trusty Kebab.
Thursday 15th. Yuk did I really eat that greasy looking thing last night, it stinks so much I can’t even bear to bin it in the flat, no I’m not talking about any ones daughter by the way, the remnants of the healthy Chicken Kebab.
With my tie knotted securely, not tight enough many say, the Rock and I leave my apartment and head to our infamous meeting with the Tower boys.
We arrive at the course and head towards the County bar as that where they have pitched up. We meet Simon, one of the three tower boys, Eddie the Stat and Harry Potter who has been let out of his chamber for the day.
After five pints of gut and bladder busting pints, we finally convince them that the flesh clad lawns and champagne bar is a better option. As we all know Champagne, no food and sun is a mix for disaster as many are already finding finding out and also the two of our party are beginning to flag.
ANDY BELLs selection are MISTER UNIVERSE who has been burning up the Mark Johnson gallops, the big priced MR SNOOZY at 14/1 and the Newmarket runner COMPTON BIRD also at a juicy 12/1. I back these all singularly and also put the juicy priced MR SNOOZY and COMPTON in an ew double.
After unfortunately having to break the seal I am surprised that all four are sucking on Big Mac style cheroots.
Eddie the Stat is the first to turn green and admit defeat by jumping on his, Harry Potter is puffing away like Ivor the Engine and waving it about like his magic wand and Simon’s eyes are watering like they did last night when he realised the cocktails weren’t two for one. On closer inspection The Tower boy, Simon’s, is a fake give up smoking one and after giving them out, that’s just not cricket Simon.
MISTER UNIVERSE looks like winning at the furlong post only to get ran out of it late on and finishes second to give us a small profit. As COMPTON BIRD has been declared a non runner at Newmarket our hopes for our ew double and ew bet are now pinned solely on our 14/1 shot MR SNOOZY.
From his poor draw MR SNOOZY runs a gallant race and gets us a place to land our ew bet and also our ew double.
I bid the four remaining swillers goodbye and arrange to meet them later. As I am walking slightly waywardly I can smile to myself at another successful days work and making another days profit for us all, which is now four on the trot.
Back at the apartment I have a look at tomorrows runners as I am leaving for Newmarket races in the morning and then zonk. Shit it’s 8pm and I have 23 missed calls on my mobile from various members of our party. A quick shower and spruce up and I am out, only to find the Rock has left in a mood as the other three have stood him up and caught the train home and his trusted Bellie Boy has been in a deep sleep. Unable to convince the moody Rock to return, I have a drink with Mick Channon jnr who tells me their DIVINE will win at Hamilton tomorrow evening. As I have to drive early in the morning a quiet one is in fact a right result and I return home.
Friday 16th. Up nice and early as I want to get my form and the cards mostly completed before my three hour drive to Newmarket. I check out the chances of DIVINE and decide if what I was told about his homework he is a must ew bet at 4/1. Also get your notebooks out as my one to follow, ARAB SPRINGS runs in the second. Although it’s a stronger race I am convinced it is good enough to secure his third win on the trot and I also bet and email this out. Finally BIG BAZ at Newmarket and the SDS ridden MAMBO PARADISE.
On arriving at the very sparsely covered Newmarket car park I wonder if it was the right decision to leave York. Ryan Moore gets our day off to the best possible start as him and ARAB SPRINGS wins well and virtually ensures our fifth winning day on the trot. I am standing with William Muir pre BIG BAZ race and he is very disappointed with the outcome as I am and thinks a return to the aw or softer conditions are in order. SDS misses the break and never looks like winning the 5f sprint.
On my way out I have a very interesting conversation and I am told to back his horse on Monday as it WILL win, so be on your toes ANDY BELLs members.
Home sweet home, it’s nice being away, but getting home to your own bed takes some beating.
Graham Lee is in flying form and completes his four timer on board our DIVINE and ensures yet another good winning day and making it an amazing FIVE on the trot.
Saturday 17th. Both my services are well in profit, ANDY BELL is nearly up to 100 points profit for the month and the LATE BETTING is 20 points up.
FREE TIP: MAX BET 7-00 Doncaster MAN OF HARLECH 11/10 (bet365)
Right now leaving for Newmarket.
