Andy Bell’s Racing Diary… WIN-ovember
Monday 4th. Yesterday ended up being a no bet day, we were going to be backing TOWN MOUSE, pity I bottled it, because he ultimately won, but with the defection of 3 runners this was as short as 5/4 and with its tendency not to start and its quirks I thought it was too much of a risk at the price.
More importantly “Miss Sweden” welly clad frump or posh totty??, anti climax I’m afraid, she was a non runner, due to carrying some overweight im told, but the 1st reserve Hayley looked really good, also all is not lost as Miss Sweden is even money to be at the Oakham Weatherspoons grand opening on Tuesday week, I hope Hayley is there as well as a good cat fight will make great reading in next weeks column. I will be there and keep you all updated.
Right enough Eastenders stuff, down to money making.
I think PRESENT VIEW is a cracking EW proposition and is priced at a tasty 4/1 with Stan James. He has his ground today and I think he has been crying out for this extra distance and he will run a huge race.
Also the Sir Mark trained ATHENIAN is down in class has a good draw and Luke Morris is riding really well at the moment, I don’t think the drop to 5f will inconvenience him as he has showed loads of pace in his 6f races. I have him tissued up at 3/1 so when I see we can steel 9/2 ew this is a must bet.
Finally not my normal type of race, but I am told RUWASI has improved tremendously at home and is expected to win so at 11/8 we back this to win.
I have a very interesting afternoon ahead of me, apart from the racing, as I am meeting a trainer with a view to possibly placing his horses. I’m not sure what to expect and I am a bit concerned that this may take up to much of my time, but we will see.
PRESENT VIEW runs a solid race and looks like winning 2 out, but I think ultimately the 3 miles just stretched him and we got a clear 2nd ew, so no harm done.
Sir Mark has placed ATHENIAN over 5f and wins with consummate ease at a very well backed 3/1 so a cracking return for us at 9/2.
I knew I should of kept away from the maiden race and RUWASI never threatens and runs very poorly.
However a very nice winning day of just over 12 points and November is already rocking and accumulating lots of profit and points.
Today’s winnings should put us very close to top of the BETFAN tree.
Tuesday 5th. A really good days racing at Exeter as AP closes in on his incredible 4000 winner mark. From a punting point of view I will be against his rides for a while as they are all being over bet and are under-priced. (so beware).
Hence we are taking on his 1st ride the short priced fav with CHAMPAGNE WEST who at 9/2 is a really good ew bet.
We will have a wait for our final 2 bets as they run in the last 2 races at Kempton. Both are trading at big prices and we will be backing these both ew. THE GREAT GABRIAL 7-00 and BATCHWORTH LADY 7-30.
My meeting went very well yesterday, although we both ended up agreeing that the position needed more time then I could dedicate, however I will be advising on certain races that I think appropriate for certain horses, so we will all be involved if any bets/gambles that may arise.
CHAMPAGNE WEST is smashed up in the betting and goes of at 5/2 and we have all grabbed 9/2. Dicky is absolutely cruising when the loose horse jumps left in front of him and totally puts off both jockey and horse and from then on its games over. Very frustrating because we had a great price and we certainly wouldn’t of been out of the 3 as the form of the final placing’s suggests we would of been very close to winning.
I think we have been very unfortunate today and I still cant believe we have lost all our monies and points with the 2 Kempton runners both getting mugged for a place finishing 4th. BATCHWORTH LADY I thought was going to be a least 2nd at 12/1 and the GREAT GABRIAL also just missed out at 8/1.
A pain of a day, I know we can’t win every day especially with the bigger prices we are backing, but as I’ve said before backing these good prices we will ultimately beat the bookies, which is my main aim.
Wednesday 6th. Today is a big day for us as I have been saying, we have a maximum bet for this week and I am going to a meet this afternoon to dot all the i’s and cross all the t’s because it’s happening tomorrow.
BREEZOLINI has only just joined Olly Pears and made a promising start for his new stable and allegedly they had found a small problem in his back area and its now sorted it so at 6/1 this must be a good ew bet on ground it loves and an ideal distance.
Being told we can forget UN BON P’TIT GARS last run as he couldn’t get to the front and dictate as he loves and today’s plan is for Smiley (Nick Scofield) to pop this gelding out in front and hopefully stay there, so once again at 5/1with what we know this must be a cracking bet to nothing ew.
Newmarket are all tipping up David Simcocks BRETON ROCK in the v soft ground and don’t seem to think the extra furlong will cause any inconvenience and at 7/4 we go in with a win bet.
I am pleased to say that our bet is a definite runner tomorrow and it’s not just another tipsters old chestnut “to get everybody to join” then to be told the stable cat has stood on its foot or he has tummy ache and whoo behold it’s a non runner (was there ever anything????) saying this I could still be left with the old preverbal egg on my face if he runs like a ponce after such a long layoff.
100% record today 3 runs and 3 seconds.
Crazy thing to say you might think, but I am not to perturbed about having a small losing day, because once again the information is spot on, although Nicholls pulled rank on Smiley and he had to ride his horse because Daryl Jacob was a non runner, Dicky Johnson did exactly what was required and banged UN BON out in front only for him to be beaten by a better horse on the day into a clear 2nd . BREEZOLINI is only beaten an unlucky neck and wins a yard over the line, so 2 ew 2nds, no harm done and BRETON ROCK is firmly put in his place by a Haggis horse (as we will hopefully see this is a good thing in a weird way).
As long as we continually keep getting on live horses as often as we can, ultimately we will make good profits and that’s why, although annoying, we should not be put off or be heading to beachy head.
Thursday 7th. I wake up thinking oh no has the stable cat pissed in our bets water trough or crapped in his feed and given him the guts ache and many other weird and not wonderful thoughts because today is a CHUMP OR CHAMP DAY for me after such build up????
9-20am and I dare not wait any longer as the 5/1 is slowly being gobbled up on EPIC BATTLE in the 3-50 at Lingfield and it must of been an “epic battle” by everyone concerned after his very bad fall after winning last time out and he has been given over 400 days to recover. I do temper my enthusiasm at tad and back him MAXIMUM ew and advise my clients to, just in case all is still not right in his mind after such a horrific fall.
Although our day will evolve firmly around EPIC BATTLE I do put up 2 more BOUCLIER which I am told is eating up the Newmarket gallops for Luca and BRAVO RIQUET who loves Towcester and is very well in himself.
I am getting loads of texts from my avid BETFAN followers saying thanks for the FREE tip, what free tip I’m thinking I’ve not given one since advising “not to eat yellow snow” on Sunday. (which 1 person e mailed in asking what time does it run heheheh).
The penny drops as BETFAN towers have cottoned on to our “good thing” and nicked it as their freeby and e mailed it out to half of the population, god I hope all my members have got on ok.
Now going to have the old barnet trimmed and then onto The Chequers to watch the racing with the lads and settle the old nerves with a sherbet or 2.
BOUCLIER is one for our notebooks as he finishes a fast finishing 2nd after letting the winner get first run on him, that’s now 4 seconds on the trot, not the start I had wished for.
The only payday BRAVO RIQUET was likely to get was if he still has his tackle intact to tie some shears onto it as he ploughed through most of the fences and could of saved the grounds man a job.
AP at his very very best and the 4000 will soon be a distance memory for this man machine, was it his wife asking the stewards to give him a 2 day ban for smashing the 3rd out of the way on his way to victory, so her and the kiddies can have him at home for a bit.
EPIC BATTLE is rearing in the stalls and comes out stone last, a groan and a deadly hush descends on the pub and all eyes are on the plonker with the big mouth huddled in the corner. Liam Jones is kidding him along and a slap or 2 down the neck doesn’t fill the baying audience with enthusiasm, until miraculously as the camera angle changes Liam Jones has dived for the rail and he is flying. The nervous, quiet huddle, me, has emerged from the corner and is now roaring like a tiger all the way to the line and LIAM JONES and EPIC BATTLE have done it by half a length.
The Big mouth (me) is glared at and told off from behind the bar for the noise pollution, but who gives a flying f##k, I’ve just earned his years wages, maybe on hind site, if he had been part of the gamble, maybe a bit of slack would of been cut.
PARTY TIME hehehehe !!!!!!!!!!!!
Friday 8th. Not EVEN a mention from BETFAN towers that “I” have given half the country a 5/1 winner, maybe a gold watch is winging its way to me or if this has pissed them off, maybe 2 tickets to listen to Simon Holden’s webcam.
Even worse not even 1 signup resulted from the winner, good job I punt all these as well and do this for the love of it (is anybody out there) and we are also 2nd in the BETFAN table, what do we need to do ?????
Maybe “The Tower boys” have a masterplan up their sleeves for us established 1s as well as the new??????
What do you all think? even money this bit hits the cutting room floor Sunday morning heheheh.
Nothing is worthy of our hard earned today, its seems rather an anti climax after yesterdays stunning 5/1 victory.
It never hurts to have a day off and recharge ones batteries.
I am told that there will be another big bet maybe a maximum again next week on Wed/Thurs.
Saturday 9th. Fully recharged and raring to go this lovely Saturday morning.
The day doesn’t start well as their are no racing posts in the area, so we have to do all our early work on line, maybe I am 1 of the old school, but I don’t think you can actually beat having the paper, although it is impossible to work without being online nowadays as the information is instant and bang up to date.
Got to be on my toes as we are leaving for Doncaster this morning for the November Handicap and bid farewell to the flat for this year.
RHOMBUS is trading at a sexy 12/1 and with the very inform SDS on board this is far to bigger price in these conditions and drawn perfectly in stall 12 we must take 12s ew.
Smiley Scofield is in the very early days of his new top job as Paul Nicholls 2nd jockey and takes the ride on the impressive last time out winner at Fakenham WONDERFUL CHARM at Wincanton. The 7/4 looks a bit skinny in what looks a tricky little race but we have to take it with VC.
Finally Dicky Johnson bumped into 1 last time (Flying Eagle) on HELLO GEORGE and today’s race looks easier on paper although once again the greedy 1s are giving nothing away at all so we have to take the 6/4.
Doncaster has its normal cat walk show ready for us, all you that have never witnessed it surely must.
If I ever dare risk a stay over in Doncaster, I am going to trot into the town centre and check whether its the girls or the shops fault that nothing over the size of 12 is ever worn regardless of the physic being crammed into it.
Although the sun is shinning and I have witnessed ball-less brass monkeys and still the pretty frocks are, Mmmmm, very very summery and the girls are most determined to show of their ample wears in these less then ideal conditions.
If I had a hat and it wasn’t to cold to take it off I surely would to these flaunting die hard beauty’s.
RHOMBUS is now trading at a crazy 6/1 and now I am armed with my racing post I can see why, I have clashed with pricewise. Although he is the most followed tipster in the country he is in a bang in a vein of poor form, so I am not ecstatic about this.
Mr Haggis is chasing the 100 winner landmark and unfortunately blows out with his first to darts with 1 more remaining.
We get off to a great start when Smiley puts in a brilliant ride on WONDERFUL CHARM after awful mistakes at the last 2 fences and gets up right on the line.
Our fate is sealed early as SDS is shuffled to the back after a tardy start on RHOMBUS and we are being shoved along all the way, although SDS never gave up to his credit we were never going to feature and yes the cream always rises to the top and Mr Haggis bolts up with CONDUCT and not only wins the November handicap but seals his 100 winners with his very last runner of the year.
We are now lucky enough to be in profit for the day regardless of what happens to HELLO GEORGE in the last.
Another great ride gets HELLO GEORGE up after looking beaten for most of the way and Dicky Johnson seals a very good winning day for us.
Two really good, strong rides has resulted in a 9ish point profit for us today and both should be up for ride of the week, somehow I think winner No 4000 will get it and rightly so, well done AP.
Sunday 10th. November the start of the jumps season proper is certainly treating us very well again this year. At the end of play last night we are sitting on about 45 points profit for the month so far, so when I said come join me for the jumps season and don’t just read about it in my weekly columns, it was not a tipsters come on or bullshit, I meant it.
SO COME ON!!!!!!!
Today’s free tip 1-20 Naven MINELLA FORU 15/8 Sportingbet.
Don’t forget we have another possible MAXIMUM next week either Wed/Thurs and also the Hunter Chases start in Ireland later this month, then December in this country.
Don’t just read come and join.
Till next Sunday be good if not be careful.
