Bankers Bonus

June 25, 2014 By admin Leave a Comment

I’m writing this column just before the England v Costa Rica game so will try to keep it short and sweet. Yes we are all disappointed at the teams feeble efforts but it’s the reasons for the defeats that are important.

We have too many foreign players in our game and the academies at our top clubs are more interested in bringing in kids from around the World rather than concentrating on finding young English talent.

I am sick of being told the Premier League is the best with both Chelsea and Man City trying to buy their way to success every season. Lets have more English managers and more English players.

The racing at Royal Ascot last week was superb regardless of how many winners or losers we all backed. I was not there myself but my brother Jack was lucky enough to be a guest of Tony Bloom the Brighton and Hove Albion owner in his private box.

Jack said it was a wonderful day especially when you’re not paying for the booze and the sing song down at the bandstand after racing was amazing. Also watching the Royal procession and listening to the national anthem was brilliant.

Oh and that’s another thing just watch the England footballers mumbling our anthem you can see there is no passion or pride in being English. Perhaps we should get Stuart Pierce to teach them the words.

We have some nice racing today in particular up at Carlisle for the Carlisle Bell but it’s to difficult to solve so for Howies Hottie I’m off to Salisbury for the 4.20 a handicap over 12 furlongs.

The selection is Snow Squall from the Mark Johnston yard. The gelding was only recently tranfered from the Godolphin team and put into Marks capable hands. Mark likes nothing better than to get cast offs from Sheik Mo and show him he can do things with horses that the Godolphin trainers can’t.

Snow Squall ran well at york last time out and the trainer now steps him up in trip which hopefully will show the gelding in a better light. He gets into this race on a lenient mark based on his 2year old form and can go well at decent odds.

Don’t forget the Befan tipster World Cup where 16 of the best tipsters do battle over the next 2 weeks. Register and join the fun you will find it more exciting and profitable than watching the England football team for sure.

EYECATCHERS

FLAT RACING

American Hope trainer M.Murphy – Ran well at Ascot when badly drawn and with a better stall position should go close.

Venezia trainer M.Meade – Given too much to do but stayed on strongly. He looks well handicapped.

Nafaqa trainer B.Hills – Lost a lot of ground with a slow start but stayed on to finish on the heels of the leaders.

Belgian Bill trainer G.Baker – He never got a clear run in the Hunt Cup and finished full of running just behind the placed horses.

Malabar trainer M.Channon – Very strong finisher at Ascot last week and a step up in trip to 7 furlongs is the answer.

Back next Wednesday.
