The horse racing bandwagon moves on to Doncaster this coming Friday for the start of our flat racing Season. It’s a very exciting time of year when many owners, trainers and jockeys have dreams of forthcoming glory for their magnificent horses.
For me Cheltenham was a waste of time as I never backed one decent winner but having said that I still enjoyed the wonderful racing during the Festival although it was all put into perspective after the terrible injury to jockey J.T.McNamara and I’m sure our best wishes go to him and his family for a speedy recovery.
Having said I had a poor Cheltenham I hope those of you who fall out of the tree after the tipster you follow has had a run of losers appreciate the open, honest and transparent approach all us tipsters at Betfan show you and you repay us by staying with us for the long haul.
To prove the point, after a lean week Fold4Gold this week produced winners in the shape of Scamperdale 20/1 and yesterday Burgoyne at 7/1.
I have had a report from Mick Channon regarding the poor showing of Sgt Reckless and Mick has said keep the faith as this horse could still be top class on the flat this Season and he could be aimed at the Melbourne Cup. Also any horse can be forgiven one bad run.
Today’s racing has an interesting look to it but as promised Howies Hottie is an ante-post bet for this years 2000gns at Newmarket in May. I had narrowed the list down to three horses Correspondent (B. Meehan 100/1) Toronado (R.Hannon 16/1) and Moohaajim(M.Botti 25/1).
After much deliberation I decided Correspondent might be just short of Classic class and Toronado might be better suited by the Derby trip.
This leaves us with Moohaajim who was 2nd to the unbeaten juvenile Reckless Abandon in last years Middle Park on unsuitable soft ground. Trainer Marco says the colt has grown and improved since last year and will go for the Greenham at Newbury as his prep before the big day.
Marco and his wife Lucy have just moved to their new Newmarket powerbase at Prestige Stables and I predict a great Season for this young Italian trainer.
I expect Moohaajim to be ridden by Adam Kirby in most of his races who this Winter has shown what a super jockey he is. The colt is available at 25/1 with Ladbrokes so can be backed each way but I dont expect those odds to be about for too long.
I see that Michael Owen has decided to retire and some pundits are describing him as one of the English International greats. Now lets face it as good as the likes of Owen, Shearer, Lineaker and Beckham are, they can’t hold a candle to Geoff Hurst who achieved more in one game in 1966 than those guys achieved in their entire careers.
It was an honour to meet Geoff last week in Hove and I can tell you at the age of 71 he still looks as fit as in his playing days.
Lets face it the word great is used too easily and if any of our current footballers want to be remembered in those terms go and win us a Trophy.
Manyriverstocross trainer A.King – Ran on very strongly at Cheltenham and a step up in trip could well be what is needed for this talented hurdler.
The Giant Bolster trainer D.Bridgwater – Finished 4th in the Gold Cup running a super race on unsuitable soft ground. Look out for him at Aintree or Punchestown.
Mr Goodenough trainer J.F.Robinson – Was in the process of running a big race at Navan on Monday when brought down. I’m sure he would have been in the frame and hopefully compensation awaits.
Phebes Wish trainer J.C.McConnell – Finished 2nd at Dundalk last Friday and looked to need the race after a layoff. This trainer sends them to the U.K when he finds the right opportunity so keep em peeled.
York Glory trainer K.Ryan – Started slowly at Lingfield on Saturday but if you watch the video you might notice he got his tail stuck in the stalls as the gates opened. This horse ran a decent race in the circumstances and can go close next time out.
Perfect Shot trainer F.Sheridan – Just beaten at Wolves yesterday this gelding is very well treated in low grade races and if turned out soon can go one better.
Back next Wednesday have a good week and be lucky.
