Here we are day 2 of the Paddy Power meeting and day 1 was a resounding success. A good crowd and decent weather made it great to be back at our premier jumps venue.
I’m not a great fan of these countryside appreciation days but that’s an argument for another day. My clients made a 5 point profit but it was looking like a bookmakers benefit till the last two faves went in wiping the smirk off the old enemies face.
One last note on yesterday how sad to see Diamond Harry a Hennesey winner sent over Cross Country fences!
It’s the big day of the three and always one of the great days to go racing Paddy Power Gold Cup day and it’s a day to shop around because several firms including Paddy Power are going 5 places in the big race. It’s the usual mega competitive handicap but the Don is here to solve it for you!
The Pipe team have the fave in Ballynagour but like many of the teams horses he was a massive flop at the Festival and though he may be more experienced now and in better form I can’t forget how laboured he looked round here in March so he is a non starter for me.
John’s Spirit must be on the shortlist after his recent win here but this is a significantly better race and though a big run is certain he looks too short in the betting for me.
Champion Court is a class act but might just be in the handicappers grip and the same could be said of Finian’s Rainbow off top weight.
We are looking for an improver here and I think I have just the one in the Henderson trained Rajdhani Express who was so impressive at the Festival. This horse is very highly thought of at Hendersons and though he was hit by a weight rise last year the feeling is he has strengthened up over the Summer and is still improving. The ground should be perfect and at 11/1 with Paddy Power and getting 5 places is a superb each way bet for us!
It’s a wonderful supporting card of races today with plenty of clues for the Festival so sit back enjoy it and as always Trust in the Don.
