The Gambling Don

November 9, 2013 By admin Leave a Comment

He did it, he only went and did it. Andy Bell actually bought a round!

In other news AP McCoy rode his four thousandth winner as Towcester had an amazing mid week crowd and the bars did amazing business.

When any sportsman breaks a record the temptation is to say it won’t be broken but I said to Penny as we watched Sky news and I stand by this I cannot see how anyone can break this record because of the simple fact that jumps jockeys get injured as part of the job. AP falls and gets up and carries on like a robot, I was at Ascot over ten years ago and he took a real pearler of a fall at the second last and limped into the waiting car, twenty minutes later he limped into the paddock and got on his next mount and won. I swear no other jockey would have carried on that day he was in no state to ride yet ended up landing a treble. Is he as good a jockey as Ruby Walsh or Barry Geraghty that’s debatable but he has a will to win that I’ve never seen before or will again. It would be great if he won sports personality of the year again this year and of course the other question is how long will he carry on?

I know someone who is close to AP and he says he has no plans to walk away any time soon which is the news we all want to hear.

It’s goodbye to the flat today as Doncaster closes the show with November handicap day. Last year we bagged the winner here at 20/1 so I thought it was only fair that the Don had another crack at it. It’s as tricky as ever but one horse stands out for me and our friends at Betvictor are offering 16/1 which I think they might regret. The horse is Border Legend trained by Roger Charlton. He is in good form winning last time out and I’m told has been readied for this, the soft ground will be ideal being by Selkirk and Graham Lee takes the ride. Back him each way and we are on a real live one here.

Have a great days punting and as always Trust in the Don.
