So near again as Dustin Johnson lost by one on Sunday night to a resurgent Bubba Watson at the Northern Trust Open.
Two majorly annoying things the first being a chip in from a bunker which is a bit flukey and made a difference and the second being since winning the Masters Bubba has blown every lead he has had and looked a real bottler!! Such is sport.
The ratings are really put to use this week as we have the first World Golf Championship Event, The Accenture Matchplay at the amazing Dove Mountain. We have a system we use to play this event which is ingenious if I don’t say so myself and has proved very successful in the past four years.
Disgracefully Woods and Mickelson can’t be bothered to turn up and there’s nothing the authorities can do about it. There are only four WGC events so I’m sure it’s possible to support them. The problem is it’s matchplay and these two have often lost in the early rounds so they have decided not to bother. What a great example to children from the Worlds top two golfers, usually I admire Phil tremendously but not in this. These events develop the game around the World, a game which has made these two mega wealthy.
Anyway lets talk about the players who have turned up we have Poulter the matchplay maestro who looked horribly out of form last week BUT as we know say matchplay to this guy and suddenly a new man emerges. It’s Ryder Cup year Poults will want to make a statement this week.
This is a big wide open course with huge undulating greens that is perfect for matchplay so expect thrills and spills and big winning margins. There will be some big priced players in contention I’m convinced so get with Golf Bet Profits this week then sit back and watch it on TV… like Tiger and Phil are!
Back next Tuesday.
