Another poor effort at my local track on Friday night with all three selections biting the dust. The main selection Priceless Max had every chance behind Jaytee Munroe. Back to the drawing board. Not happy!
Decided after much thought, studying form cards and making a few phone calls to go for a maximum bet to turn our month around from a poor profit to a healthy profit. The big meeting was the Shelbourne Park ‘Night of Stars’ where every one of the 12 races saw a winning prize of €10,000. I wonder if we will ever see a similar nights racing in the UK?
My Irish contacts were very keen on Dolores Ruth’s bitch Razldazl Marilyn who was stepping up in trip to 850 yards. The maximum advice was duly sent out to take the 7/2 that B365 had on offer. Race time approached and I was watching the whole meeting on 24 dogs streaming website, Marilyn & Dolores didn’t let us down, the locals knew backing him down to 7/4. Went to bed very happy. Flew back into top ten table for November.
Up Sunday with a spring in my step off to Ernie Gaskin’s kennel to walk my dogs and give them their weekly treats. Later I chewed the fat with Angus the dog over the Henlow card. He had a number of fancies, which I had to narrow down for subscribers, plumped for two no joy, yes you guessed it three of the other four won, with the other being beaten a head.
Onwards and upwards.
Monday is catch up day, watching videos reviewing the action. Though I had one eye on oddschecker waiting for Boylesports & B365 to price up Coventry which is fast becoming a happy hunting ground for me. I couldn’t let last weeks unlucky loser Swords Jacko go un-tipped this week renewing rivalry with Mountjoy Rebel but was better drawn in trap 3. Put it out to my subscribers. Jacko bolted out went clear and held on close home to land us a nice bet at 7/2.
Tuesday was all about the Essex Vase Sky meeting at my home track Romford. However there were some very competitive races on the card. I needed to find the Vase winner to compensate for my unusually poor ante post selections. When the going gets tough the tough gets going…. Reel Trickyone was advised at 7/2 to members of my service and Mark Wallis dog didn’t let us down. Just a shame that my other selection Jet Stream Odds was baulked at the bend as he flew home not beaten far. But it was a great nights racing I met up with a few old faces Danny the boy and Pete the bookie both fearless punters. We chewed the fat and picked up a nice few quid from the bookies on Bridge Ruth who all three of us made a certainty at 7/4 & 13/8 and even the 6/4 on the early prices. She went off an even money shot. You have to get up early to get the value!!
Wednesday there was no open racing anywhere in the UK which was a right touch as the three amigos had headed off to a Romford wine bar late into the night and sunk one too many light refreshments. So I was only too eager to say no selections advised today. I did have to force myself out of bed to go and get my dogs checked out by top physio Kevin Lewis over at Ernie Gaskins kennels. It was worthwhile as always a couple of slight niggles were found that can become something more serious. More pleasing was my star dog Head iton Tom is now 100% fit to start galloping and trialling.
I had a new phone delivered on Wednesday I have swopped my trusty Blackberry for an iPhone to sync with my work iPad. I spent a lot of Thursday setting everything up on my new phone – deleting all the stuff of my old phone – very tedious. I did send out a selection Bonamassa Rocks who was in the wars early but ran a mighty race to qualify for Semis after an arduous 6 1/2 hour journey from Essex to get to the Manchester track!! But that’s not a winner!
I propped up an ante post advice to my subscribers as I think this will win the Oaks after I watched her in the 1st round last Saturday. Jaytee Jules was advised at 6/1 and I should have told them to punt her in her 2nd rd heat (schoolboy error) I did, getting back the losses and a bit more from earlier. Hindsight is always a great thing!!
Poor card at Romford today it always is after a Sky meeting but I have to try to supply a winner for my Friday free tip newsletter readers. Brian Thompson is making the long trip down from Manchester with a few dogs, but his number one is Karma Cause who loves Romford, he won his first five over c&d, he’s been beaten in his last three. He’s regained the winning thread up at Belle Vue and can do the business from trap 1 tonight. He’s 2-2 clad in red.
Romford 8.50 Trap 1
