Normal Friday – newsletter and accompanying free tip sorted early doors – Flawless Floyd was always a dog I liked and he’s been a revaluation since being stepped up to eight bends and Jim Reynolds has his team in fine form. Then a long wait for all the bookmakers to price up the rest of the card especially Hills and track owners – though it looked a very hard card to find winners. I put up another selection to my subscribers before I left for Romford’s Chase Restaurant to join the party of friends and family invited to Tommy’s retirement party.
We had a fabulous night in the restaurant despite the old boy only managing third on his last ever appearance at the London Road track. Flawless Floyd advised at 13/8 didn’t let free tip junkies nor subscribers down with a fine victory. However my second selection Evanta Fantasy couldn’t cope with a resurgent Ali’s Avenger who is my nemesis. I left a little sad knowing that it was the end for Tommy and my love affair of watching him flash from the boxes and toy with the opposition.
Saturday evening saw the continuation of the Sunderland Festival so it was up early to look for a winner to get us rolling. I watched all the heat videos again and decided that there was one at a working mans price we could have a bet on. Heather Dimmock’s Toolatetosell was the eye catcher in the Classic heats when flying down the back straight after first bend trouble just failing to catch Mileheight Alba. I played at 10/3 and advised punter to have a decent bet also. I decided that was the only bet of the night, despite temptation to punt a few more. This would have been folly as we have ante post interest. I had time to pass so I read the holiday journal from Andy Bell who seems to like a trip to Malta and a light refreshment or three. Hope he’s been checking on how Emma’s doing at the dog tipping!
Went over my best mates Al & Jill for one of his famous BBQ and watched the Sunderland action on my iPad whilst watching the World Cup. I wasn’t best pleased when Reel Trickyone was in trouble early and failed to make the Final. However Adageo Bob 14/1 and Aaymzamodel 20/1 both line up in Weds Grand Prix Final though I think the race is at the mercy of Bubbly Gold. The Classic started well with our strong 6/1 ante post bet on Pinpoint Maxi is looking good after he demolished his good semi final field. Toolatetosell ran another magnificent race but he just couldn’t reach early leader Southern Mesut until just after the line.
Sunday saw my usual kennel visit after a trip to my local newsagent Charlie for the Racing Post to read the article on my Tommy. Then I studied the Henlow card again waiting for prices to come out. Thought Conall who landed subscribers a nice win a few weeks back could again land us the lolly. Sent out after a long phone call with Angus my Henlow contact re the rest of the card for my appearance on RPGTV later. I had a nice Sunday dinner before setting off to Racing Post HQ at Canary Wharf. This was my third appearance on the show and it flew by, I managed to get a few winners for everyone watching, but Conall was not at the races, the winner Urban Road was awesome. Not the best start to this month but I’m feeling good about Sunderland ante post investments, and I’m sure we will fire up the engines shortly.
Monday saw an open race action at Nottingham though nothing caught my attention when b365 priced up. So no bets were advised. Instead I went to watch the Tour de France pass by my Essex neighbourhood. I met Doug Tyler the Romford bookie amongst the large crowd.
I went to watch the Nottingham action but I’m glad I never had a bet. I did have a bet on my own bitch Dear Holly run at Romford but the trap three runner ran the second bend like a novice not a dog that had 30 races, swung off wide and stopped her in her tracks when almost leading out of the bend – race over!
Tuesday saw the open race action from Sheffield but again nothing really caught my eye with the card and b365 prices. Another no bet day. Watched all last weeks action again. Quiet night in with Mrs D – no dogs.
Wednesday early start to post out my selections before the locusts descend and take all the best prices. I decided on just the one selection for my GMT service and one to my other service. Having watched the heats of the Festival Flyer I was most taken with Kelly Macari’s Conna Trigger who won his heat in the fastest time of the year. I couldn’t understand why he was 3/1 – so I availed myself of as much of Hills 3/1 I could get on, then sent out the advice.
Settled back to watch the action with my son Ryan who was back home this week. Conna Trigger did exactly what I thought and bolted home after trapping well. Aayamzamodel managed to land us the each way ante post money behind Grand Prix winner Farley Rio. All eyes were on Pinpoint Maxi who I thought defeat was out of the question in the Classic. But he never trapped then moved inside a tad and was hampered by Bush Standard, this enabled Mileheight Alba to take advantage coming home an easy winner. Still a good night all things considered with my other service landing a winner as well.
Thursday was blighted by me suffering from a couple of nose bleeds which hampered me from doing anything constructive. I was going to Hove but decided against it – nothing worse than a nose bleed while your driving. Watched a bit of horse racing from Newmarket while waiting for the Hove card to be priced up fully. It looked a very good but competitive card. Sent out two selections the first one Longrange Denis ran well coming third after being mullered at the corner. But Farley Champ advised at 9/2 made no mistake leading from pillar to post. A good end to the week.
FFT landed last week let’s see if we can land it again this week. I have to make my selection from the four races priced up overnight. It would be easy to select last weeks winners Flawless Floyd as he he’s in tip top form and can win again but those darned bookies know and have him 5/4 best price. So we will go for something a little bigger in the market place Micky Hall’s 4 year old bitch Bodell Bernina did a demolition job on my Head iton Tom on her last visit, after leading him round in a fast 35.25. She can do the same to this field tonight.
