Friday I arrived in a very hot Naples and I was up early to sort out the Friday Free Tip before leaving the ship for the day. Looking at the card the night before I decided that Hometown Day could make the most of the drop in class. He was value IMO at 9/2 as I had him a 5/2 shot on my tissue. He had been running with credit against the all conquering Adageo Bob. He was backed accordingly thanks to my B365 account as both William Hill & Ladbrokes thought I was in America and wouldn’t let me bet.
I then sent the advice to subscribers before sending the newsletter to Betfan towers via email. Had a lovely day in Naples and returned to the ship for dinner. Upon returning to my cabin I checked the results and was delighted to see my selection had led all the way as I thought. Happy Days! We had been hitting the post and the bar lately but we smashed one into the back of the net!
Saturday I was at sea and the wifi wasn’t great via the sea satellite. So with little or no time to study the cards I decided to put up a no bet day. Better that than a stab in the dark tip.
I made the most of my free time with a day by the pool, followed by some wine tasting before putting my penguin suit on for our formal dinner. Had a quick look at Sittingbourne and Henlow for tomorrow where I have runners on both cards. Goes Hot runs over his favourite 450 trip at Sittingbourne and has a good chance IMO. Blackstone Marco runs in the Westmead Hawk Memorial 550 Final, he was impressive in the heats and while I would have preferred him inside Benkaat Nero he has a decent chance of lifting the prize.
Sunday I arrived at Mykanos and we went for a look round. Very picturesque as are most of the Greek Islands and very hot. We’re two hours in front of the UK. Back on board early afternoon to sail to Istanbul. So typing this on the lounger sitting by the pool.
Looking at today’s cards to sort out a selection. I thought Jim Reynolds Oscars Cobra was well over priced at 4/1 to win the Sprint Final. Backed Cobra and then sent it out to subscribers. Also thought my own Goes Hot with two of the fastest recorded times of the year over the trip was well overpriced at 5/1. I hoped to watch Marco best price 9/4 in his final on RPGTV while out at sea. But I never tip my own dogs – it’s bad karma!
Checked the results to find Goes Hot had won returned 11/4 and then later when I popped back to my cabin found that Oscars Cobra had won at 9/4. Could Marco make if a hat-trick – you bet he could. Though the feed was a bit sticky it was good enough to watch him pick up Benkaat Nero off the last bend. I had a bottle of bubbles to celebrate and slept like a log.
Monday saw us pull up dockside at Istanbul. Took Mrs D for a bit of shopping therapy before returning to send out a no bets day. Nottingham isn’t one of my favourite tracks and I haven’t had time to study the card much due to prohibitive internet costs. It was my mate Alan’s birthday so we had a few beers, some champagne and a nice steak to round off a nice day.
Tuesday I arrived at Kusadasi, very nice, more shopping for the ladies before hitting Lemon Beach for a swim and sun lounger in the 90 degree heat. Returned to have a very brief look at the Sheffield card before deciding it was another no bets day. Interestingly I received an email from B365 my best and favourite bookmaker. I thought no way – there not closing me down like the others! They were enquiring as they thought my account might have been comprised as the ships internet was coming via a satellite in the USA. Hopefully my email will have satisfied there curiosity and I can get back to business.
Wednesday I arrived in Piraeus port to go to Athens, a trip to the amazing Acropolis before some more shopping for the ladies and a liquid lunch for the men. Back on the boat checked out the all graded cards – nothing of interest – no point betting for betting’s sake. No selections advice emailed out.
Thursday we are nearing the end of the cruise heading for Venice with a day at sea. Selections sent out nice and early as for a change the flying four were races of interest. I thought that Mark Wallis Rosealinda was worth a dabble at 6/1 as I thought that there may be trouble on the outside I was right but it was the 20/1 local bitch Swift Kidman that pulled off a shock win leading all the way. My second selection Butts Mott looked a good thing advised at 6/4 and so it turned out with Pat Cowdrill’s bitch leading all the way to enable us to have yet another profitable night.
FFT returns and we have the six heats of the Champion Stakes to choose from as they are the early priced races. It would be nice to follow up last weeks 9/2 winner with another.
The heats are all very competitive as you can imagine. I’m always looking for value and I’m keen to take on hot favourite Airport Captain with Kevin Boon’s Farley Rio who has very good c&d form and is overpriced at 9/2 IMO.
