All roads led to Coral Romford Stadium on Friday evening where the Final of the Romford Puppy Cup was the feature event. I had no runners on the card but had sent out three tips to subscribers. I was quite bullish about their chances. Special Milli disappointed in the maiden marathon then Sidelight was denied an early lead by Proper Cat in the Stayers final and that’s how the order stayed. Blonde Razor destroyed a good 575 maiden field including my selection Blackrose Eve in a fast 35.40 and is a 6 bend stayer to follow. One of my punter pals ‘Danny boy’ had a good bet on it judging by his celebrations. I was not having a night to remember though ante post free tip Ballymac Marine temporarily lifted my spirits winning the Puppy Cup in a canter. Though it meant we blew out ante post on it – the first blank of 2013! Then my free tip Swift Missile looked home and hosed but was nailed off the last bend by Blackrose Mia!! It wasn’t a pleasant drive back home licking my wounds!
Woke up fresh and full of optimism on Saturday – was keen to get everyone back on track, but after a long look there was nothing to get my juices flowing at Crayford and Newcastle as per normal, so no bets were advised. More building work took place on my office though and a lovely meal was had at my favourite Chinese where I bumped into Gus my old Walthamstow contact, he’s my Henlow contact now. Gus is a very good judge, he rarely leaves it behind. He passed on a sure fire winner for tomorrow but in exchange he wanted the lowdown on Blackstone Marco. Fair deal I suppose!
Up early and off to Winston Farm kennels to take my dogs out and supply them with a few well earned treats. Nice to see the governor Ernie Gaskin back after his week away in Italy he looked refreshed. Some nice new dogs recently come in the kennel – hopefully they will be a source of a few winning selections in the future. Getting bored now with the reluctance of some RPGTV partner firms to price up the whole Henlow card, as I was off to watch Marco in the Semi Finals of the KAB Maiden Derby. Sent out my information that was obtained last night, but was waiting to the last minute to see if my other selection was going to be priced up by anyone else….to late sent it out with b365 prices….aargh….so annoying. Met Carpo & Nick the dog in the car park we had booked the same table in the restaurant (superstitious) and spoke to Lee (Ernie’s asst trainer) who told us Marco was in the same kennel as last week…liked that coincidence! First tip bombed close up 2nd but Marco blew them away in his semi to lift my spirits and Gus didn’t let me down in the lucky last with a 5/2 winner. Left Henlow on a high with a nice few quid in my pocket. I’m looking forward to Marco in the Final next week, my subscribers have all three advised ante post runners through to the Final!
Still on a high Monday morning, scoured the open races but nothing priced up all on the bags at the mercy of the track bookies prices. So another quiet one, no bets advised. Nothing for it but some more painting and watching the weekends videos.
Up and at them early Tuesday off to Romford trials to watch Tommy have a spin round to confirm his well being, which he did a flying 3.64 split recording 24.20. What a dog he is over four years young! He’s back out over 575 Friday. Home for a spot of lunch and some phone calls to my contacts. Only two open races at Sheffield tonight again SP only. Nice piece on Marco in the Racing Post today can’t wait for Sunday.
No bets advised – more painting the office instead.
We only had two open races in the UK on Wednesday both over at Coventry but there was one dog that took my eye early doors and is quickly propped up as a bet for my subscribers. Swords Jacko duly hosed up and landed all of us a nice touch advised at 2/1 returned 11/10f.
Thursday sees Hove & Henlow fare on RPGTV a mix of opens and graded races. Liked just two dogs but decided to prop only one of them to subscribers. You guessed it Centurion Sandra hosed up and Lode Esteem despite doing everything right was chinned by Droopys Reason right on the lollipop. Onwards and upwards!
Some good races featured in the flying four that have been priced up early by the bookies.
Lots of old favourites running. We will however concentrate on the bitches final for our free tip. All the pundits like Keith Allsopp’s Slick Semira however I’m not keen on her trap 1 draw which is not conducive to a fast break whereas Kevin Cobbold’s A New Venture can take advantage of the pinging box and is a sporting bet at 9/2 should she lead.
Romford 9.24 Trap 3
A New Venture
Win bet @ 9/2 Coral
Back next Friday.
