Another week has passed and with the rain having eased up a bit many racecourses are starting to get half decent conditions in which to hold their cards. It’s been a tough few months for many a racing pundit thanks to our very wet 2012, but hopefully Mother Nature will grace us with some more sunshine on the lead up to Cheltenham next month.
Not too many races have been worthy of a jot down in the notebook this week, but I do have one runner who I reckon is worth following from yesterday’s action, and I also have a nice e/w value punt for today’s free tip.
General Miller – (Trainer Nicky Henderson)
Me and my members backed this fella yesterday on his belated return to action but were disappointed after he was never really put into the race at all. He was placed wide near the rear of the field for much of the race and never really asked for any sort of effort. It proved to be nothing more than a public schooling session in my opinion, however that being said he seemed to move and jump well on the whole and although the handicapper is hardly likely to be too lenient he may get dropped a couple of pounds and looks like he should have a decent race in him before the season is out.
Onto todays tip which is in the 15:30 at Market Rasen in the shape of the progressive looking Harry Hunt. This fella ran a corker at Stratford on his return to action this term, and was value for plenty more than the winning margin would suggest. He then went on to finish a decent 2nd in a Novice Chase before running well in a jumpers bumper at Wolverhampton last month. His rider negates the 6lb rise for his Stratford success and is worth every pound of his claim in my opinion, and I’m expecting a big run today at a more than pleasing price-tag. He is 8/1 as I write and should be around half that price in my book, so he offers some good E/W value.
