Some cracking fights last weekend which included another upset and a big step backwards in David Price’s Heavyweight career.
Price got off on the front foot in the contest and had Thompson on the canvass in the second round with a clubbing right hand which the American just managed to survive.
The tide soon changed though in the next few rounds as Price seemed to lose heart and by the second minute of the fifth round he was in all sorts of trouble as Thompson piled on the pressure.
The fight was waved off by the referee with Price in no fit state to carry on or wanting to continue with his arms down by his sides after a standing eight count from the referee.
Elsewhere on the night there was an easy points win for Kevin Mitchell and former three time champ Felix Sturm blasted out Pedrag Radosevic in just four rounds in Germany.
Tonight we see the action turn to Craven Park in Hull as Kell Brook faces Carson Jones for the second time in just over a year after a hard fought first battle.
Despite winning the first encounter, Brook will be looking to put on a more convincing display against the stubborn American and keep up his mandatory position for a crack at Devon Alexander’s IBF welterweight title.
We will also see Olympic gold medallist Luke Campbell make his Pro debut at the same venue as the headline act against Andy Harris and Tommy Coyle takes on Derry Mathews for the vacant Commonwealth lightweight title.
Another good match up at Craven Park will see the upcoming and exciting Lee Selby take on unbeaten Romanian Viorel Simion over 12 rounds in a WBC International featherweight title fight.
Selby looks to be a Welshman going places after some solid performances of late and a future World Champion in the making (those the words of promoter Eddie Hearn).
But it’s one step at a time as he first needs to dispatch his Romanian opponent this evening.
So there it is, some great bouts for us to Punch some Profits from this evening.
Until The Next Time
