Greetings from very sunny Newmarket where I kid you not there were instances of Sunburn yesterday!
However still the reddest face was the one belonging to the Gambling Don who joined myself and Andy Bell for a mini BetFan Summit in the owners and Trainers Bar. The red face was obviously the result of the two flights of stairs rather than any prolonged spells in the Sun.
Belly Boy offered the opinion that the Don has spent his time since Cheltenham at a pie eating contest an opinion which went down like the proverbial lead balloon. I fear the hoped for truce between BetFan’s finest is now but a distant memory. One thing is for certain The Don needs to get Fit for the Flat and TGD after you had lunched in the exclusive members restaurant was it really necessary to have that pastie on the way back to the Jag!
The Craven has a first day of term about it and yesterday was most informative. Roger Varian clearly has his team in good nick and Mushir a Stable Line selection was the paddock pick for me in the feature race. Sadly Paul Hanagan produced an extremely weedy ride and the horse was beaten by Ryan Moore on the Hannon trained fave.
I’m convinced that Mushir will prove to be the best horse in this race maybe when stepping back to six furlongs and in stronger hands, this was one that got away but that money is only lent to the evil ones believe me.
The ground was plenty quick enough and as usual here some horses just cannot act on this track. True Story didn’t look the easiest of rides but when he hit the rising ground he shot clear for Godolphin. The second horse Obliterator was punted as though a good un and was miles clear of the rest so he is another one for the notebook. I reckon they may go for the Dante in York and if he wins that. A trip to Epsom is on the cards!
So as I head back to Newmarket for Day 2 what have we learnt, Mushir could be a group 1 sprinter, Mr Hanagan needs to get a little meaner and TGD needs to hit the treadmill.
On Saturday my Stable Line Gold customers will be the sole recipients of my strongest info of the flat season so far, join us… and get the inside line!
Back next Thursday.
