This Saturday sees an absolutely fantastic days racing with something for everyone.
The Curragh stages the Irish Derby whilst Newcastle stages the historic Pitmens Derby The Northumberland Plate. Throw in a cracking card at Newmarket and we have a Saturday to savour.
The Irish Derby looks a corker with our Derby winner Ruler of the World back in action. My feeling is that this horse was given a masterful ride by Ryan Moore whilst others in the field were not so fortunate so I’m not sure Ruler of the World has that much in hand over his rivals. I certainly wouldn’t be rushing to take the even money that he is now. The second fave is the horse that chased him home Libertarian a 7/2 shot for Saturday’s showpiece. Since the Derby our old friends Godolphin have come calling and purchased this horse for a lot of reddies. It’s a real sickener for the Burke team at Spigot Lodge who will hand him over after Saturday and it would be great for them if he could do it. He got unbalanced at Epsom so will certainly prefer the flatter track at the Curragh. Of the big priced ones I expect a bold show from Battle of Marengo who set a suicidal pace at Ascot but is a serious horse if ridden with a little more restraint.
Over at Newcastle there will be a huge crowd and plenty of ale supped as post time arrives. It’s the only meeting I know where you can buy crates of beer, marvellous. The race itself is a tough staying handicap for a huge prize fund and I can pass on a little whisper for former winner Il de Ray who you can still get 25/1 for. If the rains come this fellow will start in single figures make no bones about that!
At Stableline Gold we have a huge few days coming with some serious inside info already on. Join us and be in the know.
Have a great weekends racing everybody.
Back next Thursday.
