Eddie Ahern yesterday received a ten year ban after being convicted of not running horses on their merits. It appears he was working with an ex footballer and conspiring to rig races. This does not come as a great shock to those of us who work in racing and what amazes me is that trainers including Sir Henry Cecil continued to employ Mr Ahern while he was waiting to face these charges.
Yet another black day for racing but you have to applaud the bha for giving him a genuine punishment which will surely deter others. Ahern is set to appeal the length of the ban but the evidence looks damning so he appears to be clutching at straws. Neil Clement the former WBA player has been warned off for 15 years and it’s believed was threatened with a free season ticket to WBA if he was caught talking to jockeys again but that is yet to be confirmed.
Telescope the Derby hopeful did a terrible piece of work before racing on Tuesday in front of the media and his owners Fergie included. I will be amazed if he lines up at Epsom. The work was so bad Fergie went to the stables to give him the hair dryer treatment, the horse was last seen ringing his agent in an attempt to move stables.
At Stableline Gold I think I have the Derby winner, my members will receive the bet tomorrow and get on before the price goes. Be part of this major gamble by joining, it could be the best betting decision you ever make!
Back next Thursday.
