We are well into September and it’s great to see Stableline Gold up there with the leaders. The downpours on day 1 of the Leger Festival caught many a tipster out but we struck with a big opening day shot across the bows as Out of Bounds powered home under that man Sylvester de Sousa.
The Bookmakers love nothing more than confusion and when there is heavy late morning rain which forces the ground to change significantly they do a little jig round their offices. It must be a sickening sight, they do it because many bets struck first thing are now permanently wedged in their pockets with no chance of leaving. After one of the hottest Summers on record the fields were packed full of horses with winning form on fast ground but as we approach the latter stages of the season that becomes less relevant by the day.
It’s time to get the breeding charts and dust off the long term formbooks and look for horses who do (or are bred to) go in soft ground. The only way we can beat the Bookmakers long term is to work as hard as they do and be as crafty as they are and they bank on punters who have been backing horses through the mid season on fast ground following them over a cliff in the Autumn on soft. Make the decision today tha’ts a gang you won’t be applying for membership to join! Say thanks and see you later to your midsummer friends and find some new ones for the Autumn.
Lets return to Doncaster and today a most unlucky loser last time bids for punting redemption in the first. I speak of Les Gar Gan who last time got stopped more times than an ice cream van under the hapless Paul Mulrennan. There is no sign of Mulrennan today perhaps the owners have him fastened to a chair at a secret location in the Highlands but the great news for those of us who want our money back plus interest is that De Sousa takes the ride. The horse will relish the underfoot conditions and though it is a strong field I can see him winning this well. If you didn’t back him last time lucky you he is a great bet at 3/1 with Skybet, if you did back him, are you ready to go back to Titanic as they say? This is a different day but it’s hard not to feel we are owed one.
So lets hope De Sousa does the business in the first, if he gives it a bad ride and gets done on the line I shall see you all at the top of the stand!
Stableline Gold consistently beats the Bookies, join me to end the Flat and then for our biggest jump season ever. It might be the best bet you ever place.
Back next Thursday.
