February is here at last thank God as January has been the most stop start filled with cancellations month for racing I can ever remember, honestly you would think it was the middle of Winter. Seriously though lets hope we are through the worst and can enjoy a spell of uninterrupted Jumps action for the rest of the season as we build towards our World Cup the Cheltenham Festival!
We are planning something very special for this year’s festival but more on that very soon what I can say is if you like Cheltenham this could well be the most exciting thing you are going to hear all year!
On the subject of excitement Penny and I today will be making our first ever trip to Ffos Las Britain’s newest racecourse for their big day of the year. It looks a superb layout and everyone I know who has been has had nothing but praise for it. The ground will be testing today so we need proven stamina and for today’s Saturday Special we have it in abundance. We are going for the 2.05 the big race the Welsh Champion Hurdle which is a limited Handicap. I’m not entirely sure how you can have a Championship race and it be a handicap but I gave up trying to understand how racing is run many years ago however a good field turn up and it looks a cracker.
Oscara Dara and Tanerko Emery share favouritism and look likely to fight out the finish. Oscara Dara is a class act and won the Lanzarote last time out despite coming to a complete standstill after the last with Geraghty making a rare mistake. He has to shoulder a big weight here but has more than earned it. I really like the horse but I think he will get turned over late on by Tanerko Emery who has been a revelation this year winning three times. That means he has shot up the weights himself but still gets in here of 10 stone 5 which may well tell in the latter stages of the race. Pipe feels this horse is at his best when the ground is riding heavy so he will get his optimum conditions today. He is 7/2 with Betfred and Skybet which is more than fair and I suggest he is worth a Win bet which will please his owner Dai Walters who owns the racecourse!
Lets hope he does the business for us and makes the trip from Newmarket to Wales worth it. Have a great days Racing and watch out for news on our plans for Cheltenham.
Back next Saturday.
