Its been a turbulent week here in Newmarket and in racing in general as Godolphin’s private Trainer was found guilty of doping by using steroids. I can tell you that Newmarket which lives on rumours has long suspected this particular Trainer may be pushing the boundaries shall we say. Peter Chapple Hyam another Newmarket Trainer is facing charges from the BHA on another type of charge but a serious one has had to wait months for his case to be heard. This case was done and dusted in four days bit odd that isn’t it, just when you think the rulers of racing cannot become a bigger laughing stock they pull it off.
Certify the 1000 Guineas Fave now cannot run and you have to look at all the results from this yard last year and wonder, this yard will take a long time to shake off this image and I wonder who will take over as replacement once the dust has settled.
On to happier things and I will be attending Sandown today for the Bet365 Festival of Racing which is truly unique as it’s a mixed card of high quality Flat Racing and the last day of the jumps. My private members are receiving only Flat Racing bets till October as we concentrate on building big profits but I will come out of temporary jumps retirement for the Bet365 Gold Cup. The race at 3.50 this afternoon is a Marathon 3 mile 5 Furlong test with a steep uphill finish. The horse I really like here is the Henry Daly trained Quentin Collonges who was last seen winning the Grimthorpe at Doncaster. This is a rapidly improving bold jumping front runner and the Trainer has skipped the Festivals to come here. He is 14/1 with the sponsors Bet365 and they are generously paying 5 places. I think he is a cracking each way bet today to bring the curtain down on a brilliant jumps season.
Join me for all the best bets and inside info from the heart of flat racing as we get into the heart of the season, trust in the Don!
Back next Saturday.
