Well the dust settles on the Derby and I really feel that our bet last week Mars was more than a little unfortunate. Jockey Richard Hughes attempted to come from last which he had done in the Oaks but that was off a scorching pace whereas the Derby was run at a dawdle. This meant the horses quickened at the end as opposed to slowing down and Hughes was left well out of his ground.
As I warned you fave Dawn Approach had a mountain to climb and is too fast a horse to be running over that trip, he will be back to a mile but this whole experience may have soured him. Coolmore have options with all theirs I personally hope that Mars goes for the Irish Derby as I believe he will turn the form round.
But what of today, well it’s a fairly poor fare for a Saturday but there is a Saturday special because one quality horse stands out as being very good value and too good to miss. It runs in the feature race at Haydock and is the German trained Nymphea 6/1 with Skybet. This horse was second in a group 1 last year which is beyond what the opposition have done and looked in good nick when easily winning at listed level last time. 6/1 is cracking and this one shouldn’t be missed so get on.
