I made the trip up to Haydock yesterday in real hope of seeing three big winners for my private members and well we got one right and two well lets see how we can phrase it.
I see top diarist Andrew Bell (can’t wait for your book by the way, I’m away a lot and some times it’s tough to get to sleep in hotel rooms) has accused me of being unfair to jockeys. So I want to share with you how brilliant Richard Hughes was on Havanna Cooler and Sole Power yesterday as I watched through my binoculars. The way he went one yard then fell off Havanna Cooler was top drawer only to be matched thirty minutes later by having Sole Power stone last then only asking for an effort when the winners had clearly flown was again a masterclass. Is that ok?
On a serious note I’m pleased to hear some bookies returned stakes on Havanna Cooler which is good pr as in no way can we say he was ever involved in the race. It is a grey area as once the stalls open it’s over to the jockey BUT there are plenty of sports to bet on and incidents like that can see punters leave the sport in droves.
Our third big bet Captain Cat obliged in style, real style and a trip to the pre parade showed what a big powerful beast he has matured into. He treated a good field with disdain here and looks group 1 to me. His Trainer excels with horses like this and wherever he goes dear readers oppose him with great caution.
Watching him win almost made up for seeing Havanna Cooler’s antics and spotting Betfan’s very own tango man Simon Holden. He appears to have been involved in the robbery of a pink shirt shop. Perhaps Wilson the Betfan Towers caretaker is using his other shirts to clean the windows, who knows.
I’m staying up North to attend York’s excellent Sunday meeting and staying with friends all week as it’s Leger week and all roads lead to Doncaster starting Wednesday and ending with the biggie on Saturday. This is the time to join me because we will be betting big on the Town Moor and The Don’s record is second to none at the big meetings so beware of imitations.
Our bet today is each way Duke of Yorkshire who I hear has been aimed at today by his very clever Trainer Tim Easterby. A big galloping sort this race should be ideal and at 10/1 with sky bet he is worthy of each way support.
14:30 York – Duke of Yorkshire – Each Way Bet 10/1 (skybet)
It’s a huge week in the offing, get with the man who has proved it time after time at the big meetings, Isn’t it time you put your betting on a professional footing and Trusted in The Don.
