Flew down to Goodwood on Tuesday morning, walked the course, beautiful but it is the most undulating I’ve been on, like a rollercoaster with a camber in the home straight, very difficult to ride and hard luck stories in every race.
If drawn out wide on the round course in a big field you have almost no chance, if drawn low on the favoured rail but off the pace you get trapped and can’t get out, needs lots of luck. Both my bets HAVANA COOLER and BUCKSTAY were beaten in photo finishes! It’s a great social occasion but didn’t overdo it as I had a runner in the last race and what an experience to finish a slightly unlucky third and get into the winners enclosure, we were all buzzing and celebrated that night if it had won!
As feared the rest of the week was full of hard luck stories, I would recommend everyone experiences a few days at Glorious Goodwood, if the weather is kind, but go easy on the betting front. Next trip is to York and the big Ebor meeting, I know through social media quite a few of you are going and it will be good to catch up, my bet Havana Cooler is one of the fav’s for the Ebor itself but it wasn’t overly impressed with it’s attitude in the finish, maybe needs some headgear but I reckon Pallastor will take a lot of beating.
I didn’t really have time with too much analysis of the racing at other tracks so only two added to the hotlist this week:
WARRIOR OF LIGHT and RECTITUDE
Shockingly there were 80 non-runners over the weekend, 4 in a race I was betting, the rule 4 is annoying but the most important factor in a race is pace & when you have analysed a race, worked out where the pace comes from and then they get taken out, it ruins everything, your horse shortens in price but it’s actual chance has diminished as the race will be run at a crawl when anything can win a 1 furlong sprint.
Tuesday’s free tip is PURPLE LANE 4:30 Ffos Las current best price 2/1.
Until next Tuesday, Happy Punting!
Back next Tuesday.
