Last week was fairly quiet betting wise. Went to Hamilton Park on Monday for two bets, the first Master Bond won nicely the second Funding Deficit I’d taken the 4/1 early price and didn’t get involved again at the track as his odds collapsed to 5/4, normally when you beat the book so easily you’re happy but I was nervous as I felt he had become way too short and so it proved as he ran awkwardly to finish disappointingly in midfield.
Next bet was on Wednesday evening at Epsom, not my favourite track, but thought it would suit JAKEY a bit of a puller but there was pace in the race and was hoping he’d learnt to settle. Ted Durcan had him last but settled well and he flew home to win going away, a great ride from Ted, I’ve never said that before! Jakey could even be more effected over further now he’s settling better and with his turn of foot could win a decent race.
On Thursday FAYDHAN produced the best performance by a 2yo I’ve seen this season and immediately took some of the 33s quoted for the 2015 2000 Gunieas, he is quite speedily breed, but was powering away at the finish and will have no problems staying 7f and hopefully strengthen over the winter and get the mile, he’s worth an ante post interest.
Saturday Eclipse meeting at Sandown and Haydock’s Old Newton Cup card are two of my favourites of the year but with rain failing on watered ground bets (and losses) were kept to a minimum. I was at Carlisle to see one of the horses I part own finally get a decent ride and win easily, we celebrated with Champagne and fish suppers, magic!
It’s was onto sunny Ayr on Sunday, slightly hung-over but didn’t need to study the form as I had one very strong bet Lilac Tree who had just been collared close home by Jakey a few days before, my only concern was the race had come too soon but I thought he would get away with it on this easy galloping bowl that strongly favours front runners, to my horror, Joe Fanning a usually reliable front runner, took a pull and anchored him behind a wall of horse and despite travelling best couldn’t get a gap and got beat.
Watched the German Derby was ultra impressed with SEA THE MOON, I think he could take Australia over a mile and a half.
Only three horses got added to my ‘hotlist’ from last week:
BAHA, STELLA BELLISSIMA, BURANO.
I’ve also been involved in the BetFan Horse Racing Tipster World Cup where I’ve made it through to Thursday’s semi-final. It’s actually lead to some good banter between fellow tipsters, now also ran’s, on social media, they’re making excuses for their feeble efforts and are talking about revenge, well all I can say is come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough!
Tuesday’s free tip is BLACK MINSTREL current best price 15/8 with SkyBet.
