Taking The Bookies For Millions

November 6, 2014 By admin Leave a Comment

Nowadays it’s lot more difficult to pull the wool over Bookies eyes as they are better informed than they ever have been. There are still people who manage to do it but you need to be very clever!

There are many popular ways to deceive the bookies. One method is to strike a bet on the wrong horse so they shorten up and push the price out on other horses. You then get a better price for the one you really want to back. This only works if you’re well known to them and you have large stakes. Another popular one is to ring up and ask for a price. Whatever they offer you, you state that you can get on at a better price elsewhere. As soon as you’re off the phone they shorten up. You then get someone else to ring up and put a larger stake on the one you want!

One of the greatest racing coups of all time though had to be the one that Patrick Veitch organised. The horse was called Exponential and was ruled out on the day of the race as a no hoper. He opened on course at 100/1 and was steadily backed in to 8/1. The horse won comfortably and Veitch reportedly won over half a million pounds in cash. Not bad for a days work!

He’d spent months preparing for the race and everything was kept very quiet before the race. No one had a clue what was coming and the actual betting only happened 10 mins before the race started. A perfect plan well executed.

There are many brilliant coups out there and more recently Barney Curley organised a massive one that hit the bookies for millions. Just google his name and you’ll be able to see all the coup’s he’s managed to pull off. The guy is a genius!

Back next week with more stories from the betting world.

The Term LongCoat And Technology

February 5, 2014 By Bet Kudos Leave a Comment

With all the excitement gone now surrounding Barney Curley which I wrote about last week the racing world has quietened down somewhat. The weather doesn’t seem to be improving and the ground is heavy almost everywhere. I’ve focused a lot of my betting on the all weather and many of my clients have been doing the same. Who’d think that in just a couple of months we’ll be starting evening racing and the flat racing will be under way. How the seasons change so quickly in this country.

Anyway enough of me reminiscing about the summer.  I’m going to talk about my profession in more detail today and tell you about what the industry terms as a “Longcoat.” Longcoats have been around for as long as betting has been going on and the term derives from the days when men with information used to wear, yes you’ve guessed it….long coats! You know the image, a man with a trench coat on, a trilby hat and smoking a woodbine. Large wads of cash in his inside pocket and a glint in his eye as he knew more than the average punter.

Now I’ve set the image, I’ll go about dis-spelling it. That was certainly the case in my Grandads day but it’s somewhat changed in today’s electronic age. My grandad would have to travel all around the country and place bets physically in various bookie shops or on the track himself. He had his phone tree which involved calling one person who would then in turn ring two others who then themselves would ring two other people so that there would be more lots of people getting on. Nowadays I could sit in my office at home and not leave for 10 years and make more money. Technology has completely changed the way Longcoats operate. No one knows what you look like and in some cases wouldn’t even know your voice!

Information comes in the form of an e-mail first thing in the morning, a few phone calls or text messages with information and instructions. I rarely see any cold hard cash as it’s all done on-line. The majority of my contacts have never even seen my face. I then send text messages and make a few phone calls myself to organise getting the money down. After the race I then send a few e-mails and tally up the total winnings. Spread the money about and my job is done. There’s no driving all over the country. I do however attend a lot of meetings as this is where new contacts can be found and where the people that do know me can trade information for information.

So all in all we’re just sources of information and in today’s world the most natural place for us to exist is on the internet, after all it’s called information technology. I wonder how my Grandad would view it all as so much has changed. And to finish off the longest coat I own comes to my waist so you could argue that we should be re-named short coats!

MATR continues to deliver profits to my members and despite one losing month at the end of last year I have turned a profit for 17 out of the 18 months I have been providing my members with one hot tip from several of my best contacts. Hop on board as we head into the spring and start making some money wit me and my current members.

Back next week,

Racing has been decimated by the dreadful weather leaving the racing media with nothing to do but talk about Barney Curley for another week!

For what it’s worth I’m never upset to hear of Bookmakers losing money in fact it gives me a warm glow very similar to that of the young paper boy in the old ready brek adverts. However I do feel sorry for punters whose money it is that Curley has actually won, who had bet there money in the races which included the four horses involved in the coup.

They may not feel too keen to bet there hard earned on a morning before they go to work next time and that’s the real issue. Punters have to believe that their horse particularly on the all weather is involved in a race where not only is it trying but the others are too and have been in there previous races. I have had a rule for over a decade I don’t bet or tip in races that involve horses connected to Barney Curley, nothing personal it’s just what I do, myself and my clients are only casual observers.

Do I bet on the All Weather yes I do and I advise others to but I’m more concerned by the season at the lack of stewarding and calling to account strange rides which follow alarming drifts on the betting exchanges. Lets all be adults here, low prize money and the ability to bet a horse to lose were always going to be a dreadful cocktail, a bit like vodka and red bull for the younger readers. So what you have to do is beef up the security and the stewarding and start hauling the usual suspects in and fining or banning them. The racing authorities reluctance to do so suggests they either don’t care or think there is no point both of which are worrying.

On to better news Wincanton is on today giving us a rare sighting of jump racing and fingers crossed Wetherby is on for Saturday where Stable Line Gold have a monster bet lined up to finish January with a bang. The wet and gloom will soon be gone and a young mans thoughts will turn to Cheltenham, makes you feel happier just thinking about it doesn’t it. A bit like that paper boy in the ready brek adverts.

Back next Thursday.

The Perfect Gamble….

January 29, 2014 By Bet Kudos Leave a Comment

I wrote last week about Ante-post betting and how you can use all of your lose change throughout the season to build up a nice little portfolio. Well worth a read even if I say so myself 😉

It’s been a tough week this week with so many meetings being abandoned and the those that have gone ahead suffering from heavy ground. Not sure it will get any better either with colder climates on the way. MATR manged to pull a few winners out of the hat though and we continue to get ourselves into profit. After Decembers let down I have got rid of two contacts as I constantly sort the wheat from the chaff.

Anyway onto today and I thought I’d write about the gamble that went down last week with Barney Curley at the centre of affairs. There is divided opinion on the merits of this genius and I am in the camp that admires him. He’s a very private man and I’ve not had the pleasure of his company but he is releasing a book at the end of March where he discusses his gambling and the tragic loss of his son. I’ve pre-ordered mine and recommend you do too. Should be a terrific read.

So back to the gamble. It’s tougher and tougher these days to attempt such a coup but Barney still manages to do it. Unlike the one in the 70’s which I know my grandad was involved with where someone was employed to stay on the phone on the course while the money was going down. This stopped the bookies from ringing the shops to alert them of the gamble while armies of people placed their bets. Genius! Of course today that’s not possible and bookies can e-mail, phone, text or whatever at the touch of the button. Rather like last week. As soon as word got out the prices tumbled like something falling out of the sky. Where the SP’s correct? Several had no form. Most had been off the course for over a year. The SP’s where absolutely incorrect.

Now this annoys me slightly and the fact that they won so easily you could argue that maybe they did deserve to be odds on. However nowadays when the markets returning price is supposed to be the most accurate assessment of a horses chance you do get the odd one that is way off. These bookies run scared and smash the SP’s down to protect their own wallets and trade off all monies and of course it sometimes skews the market.

Bit we’ll forgive Barney for effecting the markets in such a way and applaud the master mind for the way he pulled off the coup. Years of planning. Finding the right horses. Entering them into the right races. Making sure all the right conditions where in place. Knowing that the bookies would price them too high. Keeping quiet about it all and then pouncing and taking the bookies for several millions. I’m sorry but that is pure brilliance. Even in my older years I would love to pull something like that off!

I shall instead though be happy with my current operation which has been running for a very long time now and continue to tip as MATR where my subscribers get the best of my inside knowledge every day and turn a profit from 17 out of 18 months. I intend to do the same again and get another if not more 17 months of profit. If your not a member then why not!?!

I’ll be back next week with more insights into the world of the geegeez but until then good luck and have a cracking week.

The main talking point on the racing scene over the last week has been the amazing coup set up by legendary gambler Barney Curley. Although Barney has yet to accept full credit for the bets, all four winning horses have links to him.

The winning Quartet were backed in Lucky15’s, Yankies, Trebles and Doubles overnight at odds of 10/1, 7/1, 20/1 and 7/1 respectively before being returned at SP’s of evens, 9/4, 4/6 and 4/7.

It is estimated winnings total over £2 Million for the Irish gambler and his colleagues. This is not the first major gamble landed by Barney in 1975 he pulled off a master stroke with Yellow Sam at Bellewstown near Dublin when he blocked off the only phone on course by getting a friend to check on the well being of his sick aunt. In those pre-mobile phone days it stopped on course bookies from knowing about large bets that had been made and so unable to shorten the price on Yellow Sam.

Our intrepid punter and trainer also landed another massive coup in 2010 so you can see why bookmakers are in awe of the great man.

However what you don’t know about Barney he has attempted other coups overtime which don’t get publicity but when he does hit the target winnings can be life changing. This is very similar to our Fold4Gold service which has thrown up some very big winners this month making lots of new clients join the service.

Well the message to you guys is thanks for joining but there will be losing days, weeks and months but just like Barney Curley coups you have to stick with it and not fold after a losing period. The same thing applies to all my tipster colleagues on Betfan when you join them please stay on board as those that throw in the towel are the losers.

Also for those of you who are not members of Fold4Gold be warned there will be a MASSIVE WINNING BET at some stage this year and you have to be in it to win it!

The bookies have been crying all week over the legitimacy of the horses in the big coup as they had dropped stones in the handicap and in some cases hadn’t run for ages. Well to be honest those are the type of horses I look for and those are the type of horses that can make us all the major profits we all seek. After all it doesn’t take the brain of an Einstein to keep tipping favourites.

We had a great run from last weeks Howies Hottie Ted Spread who finished 3rd in a three way photo at 16/1 and hopefully today’s selection can do even better.

I’m playing in the 5.50 Kempton on Six Silver Lane. This is a very low grade handicap for very moderate animals. The tip is in my opinion a typical Barney Curley type horse as he has dropped from a winning mark of 76 and today races off only 49. His last win was achieved on the beach at Laytown in Ireland 2 years ago but he has shown a little promise since joining Derek Shaws yard. They have booked George Baker to ride and on a surface that should suit he can go well at an each way price.

EYECATCHERS

ARTIFICIAL SURFACE

Discussiontofollow trainer M.Murphy – Easy winner at Kempton and a horse improving fast.

Top Cop trainer R.Harris – Finished unplaced at Kempton after showing lots of early dash. He will be fitter next time and one to look out for.

Rowe Park trainer Linda Jewel – Old timer that is well handicapped and can win on any artificial surface.

Brocklebank trainer S.Dow – Finished like the proverbial train last week and I’m sure will be primed to win soon.

JUMPERS

The Giant Bolster trainer D.Bridgwater – Super winner at Cheltenham on desperate ground. He will be even better on good ground and you can’t rule him out for the Gold Cup.

Big Bucks trainer P.Nicholls – Only beaten by lack off fitness last week. He remains the best staying hurdler in the country.

Baile Anrai trainer D.Skelton – A very good 2nd at Donny in the big handicap chase last Saturday and again he will go even better on a sounder surface.

Back next Wednesday have a good week and be lucky.

Howard Davis.

Howards Wednesday Eyecatchers

February 6, 2013 By admin Leave a Comment

All eyes will be on Wembley tonight where England take on the mighty Brazil. It is a friendly but I’m sure we will be well entertained by two teams who are both looking for the right blend for the next World Cup.

The greatest footballer of them all Pele will miss the show as he is having a hip replacement and I’m sure we will all be thinking of England’s greatest player Sir Bobby Moore who died Feburary twenty years ago.

Bet365 are offering 23/10 an England victory and that isn’t a bad bet with Walcotts pace and Rooney’s skill to cause the South Americans lots of problems.

It’s nice to see racing resumed at Southwell but it remains to be seen if front runners still have a distinct advantage on the relaid surface. Last week Howies Hottie Vale of Lingfield was one of the unluckiest losers of the season but you can read more about that in my eyecatchers list.

This brings me on to the mind set of the average punter who seems to think as soon as a tipster has a loser or two it’s time to move on and try to find greener grass. It’s the biggest mistake any of us can make because if you manage to find a tipster who has had success, as sure as eggs are eggs the profits will return and by deserting him or her you will be the loser in the long run.

Today’s Hottie comes in the 5.35 Kempton and it’s top of the shop number 1, Sommersturm. The gelding has been owned and trained up until the end of last year by none other than Barney Curley and had landed a couple of massive touches for the pro gambler.

Now a 9 year old he has moved to Wales and is under the care of David Evans whose stable have been on fire over the last few months. Dave had the horse run over 13 furlongs last time at Lingfield but found the trip a shade too far and here he reverts to 10 furlongs which should be well within his compass.

Young William Carson takes the ride and Willies grandson is well drawn on the inside rail to attack from the get go. I haven’t seen any early prices as yet but the old boy should give us a good run for our money.

Talking about Barney Curley there was an interview on Attheraces when Luke Harvey was talking to the outspoken Irishman and it is one of the best and funniest bits of tv you will see. I think it can still be found on You Tube if you want a good laugh.

EYECATCHERS

We have been very successful with these over the last few months and today I have 10 of the best to add to the list.

Vale of Lingfield trainer J.Best – As mentioned above he was so unlucky in running (watch the video of the race on the sporting life website). He was boxed in on the the rail and George Baker had to pull him back and then make his move on the outside. The horse finished so strongly he would have won for sure with a clear run. It’s possible a step up to a mile might help his cause in this bottom grade.

Khawatim trainer N.Quinlan – Never got the run of the race at Lingfield but finished well. Keep a look out for him next time as he seems to be in good form.

Leitrim King trainer G.Moore – Hasn’t been with Gary long and the trainer is still trying to find his best trip. This is one yard that will find the key to make this improving type a winner.

Dancing Freddy trainer Violet Jordan – Been front running at Lingfield but once he gets back to his favoured surface at Southwell he will be hard to beat.

Push Me Trainer J.Poulton – Never got a clear passage last time but the grey finished full of running and must go close soon.

Travelling trainer T.Carrol – Ran in the same race as Push Me but the apprentice jockey gave the gelding far to much to do and in the circumstances he did well to finish on the heels of the leaders.

Aim To Prosper trainer P.Nicholls – Don’t often put up horses from this top yard as they are over bet and can be poor value but this top class flat handicapper ran well over hurdles at Doncaster and if Paul steps him up in trip he should soon be a winner over jumps. He does not want soft or heavy ground.

My Nosy Rosy trainer B.Case – Looked all over the winner until stamina gave out a drop back in distance could be the answer.

Passing Through trainer P.Fenton – Finished like a train at Fairyhouse yesterday. Perhaps a longer trip or being closer to the pace will help.

Predateur trainer J.Lambe – Ran in the same race as Passing Through this ex Paul Nicholls inmate is extremely well treated especially over fences. He needed this race having been off for over a year.

Back next Wednesday have a good week and be lucky.
