The weather refuses to turn remotely spring like and news reaches BetFan Towers this morning that the Lincoln meeting at Doncaster on Saturday is now under threat of being snowed off. Many flat horses are in full work now and this weather will make it very difficult for their trainers to get them fully tuned up.
Once the season starts it will quickly become apparent who has been successful in getting full work in and again the bigger yards with the better facilities will be at a distinct advantage. It will be fascinating to see the Trainers Championship this year, more often than not in the last decade Aiden O’Brian has managed to win it despite the fact he is based in Ireland. Such has been his vice like grip on the Classics which carry the huge purses. John Gosden has given him a challenge as did Sir Henry but he lacks Frankel to boost his coffers this year sadly.
Team Hannon in the South and Mark Johnston in the North will dominate the minor tracks and have some big results at the bigger meetings but will either yard unearth a classic horse this year, the jury’s out on that one. Mark Johnston particularly seems to not have had a really good horse for some years and you wonder how he is addressing that.
Richard Fahey in Malton has his older horses fit and raring to go should Donny beat the chill and already there is some real excitement about some of the two year olds in the yard who already look Ascot material. Former stable jockey Paul Hanagan will still be a key factor when available and another big year looks on the horizon.
The sport lacks Frankie for a while yet which is a pr disaster so hopefully some of the other top jockeys like one Ryan Moore will step up to the plate in terms of their interviews and selling the sport, then again maybe not.
The first classics are a mere six weeks away so don’t delay any longer get the very best advice out there for the Flat season, Power Naps, my service is proven long term to beat the Bookies on the Flat year after year. If you want to be on the inside of major gambles from top sources then this Flat season I have a few spaces in Stableline Gold which has hit the bookies where it hurts as you can see in the BetFan league tables of the last four months.
Lets make this the best flat season ever, everything is in place now except the Sunshine.
Back next Thursday.
