It’s Shergar Cup day here at Ascot and we are set for a superb day of racing.

Much maligned as a novelty event by sections of the media it’s an event that brings new people into racing and I’m sure ITV will do it justice. They certainly are bringing entertainment back to racing.

World Class jockeys keen to get one over on each other makes for a cracking betting prospect and all races are run at a great pace.

There were stories of team tactics in the early years but that’s all been stopped so you can bet with confidence.

Our bet runs in the 2.15 and is Gawdawpalin trained by Sylvester Kirk. A tricky customer in the past he won well last time and apparently it’s down to him being gelded.

Seems a bit extreme but there you go. He is 9/2 with bet365 and that’s massive.

So ignore the naysayers and watch the Shergar Cup it will be fantastic.

Back next week. Unless I’ve been gelded

If there is a better Saturday for punting then nobody told me about it. The July Cup the final day of Newmarket’s mid summer jamboree is complimented by my local gaffe York staging Smiths day with the Smiths cup at the centre.

York will be full of gangs drinking, swearing and generally being anti social and that’s just the women but one things for sure the racing on the Knavesmire will be super competitive.

The big race itself is one of the season’s richest handicaps and has its usual high quality field of top class one mile 2 furlong handicappers. The straight is long and galloping and wide so there should never be hard luck stories at York. Strangely for a galloping track history shows us in these events it pays to be up with the leaders not loitering at the back. Nobody has been able to convince Jamie Spencer that this is the case and people have given up trying.

Richard Fahey has always been a man to fear here and this is the track he targets with his top handicappers. One horse who we have not seen this year is Garcia who landed some big touches for connections last year before flopping on his final start. I understand the horse was feeling the effects of his winning run by then and that we should ignore that run. He has been prepared for this and I’m not concerned at all he comes here first time out as Fahey can get any horse fit at his excellent facilities. He is still on a winning mark and has course form. Jack Garrity takes the ride and Sky Bet go 25/1 which looks just what the Dr ordered.

3.05 York – Each Way – Garcia 25/1 – Sky Bet 1/4 odds 4 places

I will be back next week unless I’m arrested for drinking and swearing today… well when in Rome!!!

A plethora of good racing abounds on Saturday but Haydock takes my attention as it’s one of the big days of the year the BET365 Old Newton Cup.

Haydock has become one of the best places in the North to go racing and today will be rammed with racegoers looking for whatever every racegoers looks for more money than they arrived with. A days racing is perhaps the only day out where you can go home with more than you arrived with or of course much less.

The Old Newton Cup is one of the great handicaps and has attracted the usual field of top handicappers which of course leaves us with the usual puzzle of picking the winner.

Big Country has been one of the handicap success stories of the season and is rightly the favourite but I’m not sure this is the right race for him on this tight track so we will pass on him though he has a big race in him.

Borocco seems to always be the subject of a major gamble but the bad bit is he never seems to win so we will pass over him. One horse who I believe is well weighted and ready to win a biggie is Carntop trained by Ralph Beckett @ 12/1 with Bet365 with 4 places and that looks an excellent bet. Beckett is a master at bringing about improvement in horses and Carntop has improved steadily with every run this year.

A fast pace on a tight track is perfect for this horse and that’s what todays race is highly likely to produce so he has to be the selection.

The Simon Holden Racing Club has one aim to make its customers significant profits betting on racing and its become very good at it. We have major festivals and lots of big races to come this Summer and you can be part of it.

The Gambling Don

August 2, 2015 By admin Leave a Comment

So Goodwood is over for another year and we said goodbye to one veteran Richard Hughes which was correct as he has been a shadow of his former self this year.

The meeting will be remembered as the year another old boy Frankie Dettori came right back to his best as he romped away with the top jockeys title. I’m no fan of the pretend charachter we see on tv but when focused like this he is a brilliant horseman.

Goodwood is like Chester and Epsom in that it finds the bad jockeys out very quickly and this year many racegoers seemed to want to point this out to Jim Crowley whose ride on the Corsican will not be going in his scrapbook. Crowley several times this week has ended up in the coffin on the inside waiting for gaps that never come. The usual genteel atmosphere at Goodwood was shattered as he gave the Corsican a horror ride leading to language that would even shock Andy Bell and his pals at whatever ghastly pub they drink in.

Crowley looked like he wanted the ground to open up and swallow him and to be fair anyone who had backed the Corsican would have settled for that too. Getting caught on the inside at Goodwood for a senior jockey is not acceptable in a small field it’s unforgivable.

To be fair to Goodwood everything was perfect from the ground to the facilities and the atmosphere is much more pleasant than Ascot in the Dons opinion. The highlight of a solid week for me was Malabar scooting clear for the in form Channon team.

York is now on the horizon, a chance to meet up with friends and people you respect and Simon Holden will be there and the Don aims to bang in many more big price winners like Malabar.

The show goes on and having mentioned Chester The Don has a big priced selection for us on the Roodeye. In the 3.50 William Hill go 14/1 about Clockmaker a horse who only seems to come to life at this track. If we just look at his Chester form he is bang there and has a lovely draw. Go each way and lets hope it’s the right time to back Clockmaker (forgive me that one its been a long week).

Have a great Sunday and remember…

Trust in the Don he will always be BetFans number one.

Andy Bell’s Racing Diary

May 30, 2015 By admin Leave a Comment

Sunday 24th. Sunday morning and no we’re not top of the tree with these new so called Super services that keep appearing and we are never likely to be again, well not until they disappear as quickly as they appear anyway, but we have a very healthy profit, which I can take pride from as I have grafted for all of it, of just under 20 points on my ANDY BELL’s service and a whooping 120 on my LATE CALL service.

We have three bets today RAILWAY DILLON in the Hunter Chase and two across the water the English raider POSTPONED and the Dermot Weld trained JOAILLIERE.

Not much happening today a quiet one watching the Grand Prix and the Cricket, I fancy us stuffing the Kiwi’s in this test after an appalling start.

POSTPONED just couldn’t quite make all and got just ran out of it in the final 100 yards and JOALLIERE showed her inexperience after only one run and finished out of the frame, so we give back a little of this months winnings, not much I hasten to add.

The LATE service nearly hit the jackpot again today as we backed SHOW ON THE ROAD ew at 13/2 And she drifted right out yo 11/1 and just failed to win and finished a clear second securing our ew monies, best odds guaranteed wins again.

Monday 25th. I watched the documentary on Winston Churchill last night although he won us the war he was a lad wasn’t he, I never realised how left wing he really was and what a tireless worker as well.

Still not quite top of the Betfan tree lol, but I’ll give these new services a run for their monies in June, mark my words,  I’m probably not going to improve a great deal on my LATE services performance of 120 points profit this month, but as a form reader ANDY BELL will come into his own and I think they will come back to the field now live.

Thankfully I have most of my emails and selections sorted as I’m on the 9am train to London for the £120 million final and can you believe it British Rail has lifted their strike for us little old Canaries. I am catching the 9-07 and heading straight into Liverpool Street and then on the underground and meeting up with a load of boys about a mile from the ground. The train could have been sponsored by our local brewery Greene King as it was just a sea of tinnies although I must say Lager was way out in front if a head count was actually taken. It was pretty somber for most of the journey as most of the excitement was expectancy although the noise levels were most defiantly rising in conjunction with the pile of tinnies. By the time we rocked up at Chelmsford it was standing room only and it was literally a sea of green and yellow. I must say the behavior was implicit for most of the journey although the queue to the toilets was now starting to grow much like Grumbling Dons losses heheheh.

Anyway business as usual I can’t let my jollys totally get in the way of work as we have two selections today ROCK LOBSTER ew and SUBLIMATION who I am told should win but after his 180 day absence I decide to put him out as an ew maximum.

No rocket science for my flying LATE service clients as today I just have to put up a Sir Michael shorty. YARROW is 8/11 and after his gallop on Thursday that is ridiculous as he pushed a group horse all the way of the four furlong gallop and as I say in my email he is a 1/2 shot at least, fill you boots and max him.

I don’t often let racing take a back seat, well hardly ever, but today is different, how often do we the Canaries get to Wembley, 1985 I think was the last time and I was a wee snip and there. Although some things never change, I can remember the night before our last excursion we were all in the Hoxne Swan and having a right good go at it and I was always the youngest and could never drink with the big boys although I thought I could or I kidded myself anyway. As the nights grew older the flower pots grew moister as most of my drinks were poured cunningly into them, well as I thought. I now know that my movements may as well of been on a Sat nav as big brother saw everything, they never said anything at the time because it was much more fun watching me sneakily pour away my drinks than them seeing me passed out on the floor.
Anyway the dear Landlady (Francis) covered me up during the early hours and even woke me the next morning with sandwiches for the train, how come that never happens nowadays, must of been my sweet innocent smile.

Hopefully as we beat the Scum in the semi’s and met a Northern team in the finals in 85 and won, maybe history can repeat itself this year.

Norwich start like a team possessed and play absolutely fantastic football not letting the northerners get a look in and then bang Jerome bulges the back of the net bang in front of us and all of a sudden it’s mayhem, we have hardly drawn our breathes when Redmond scored a wonder goal and all of a sudden it’s Man U here we come. Well the rest is history and we never looked back from our 2-0 halftime score and beat Middlesborough at their own game, sitting back and come get us if your good enough. The after match scenes were incredible and we enjoyed every minute of it, good old Michael Foulger and Delia are now £120 million richer and we have premier football to look forward to next year. I may even go out of Michael’s box next year and leave the racing to watch some of the game, you never know. We head into the Capitol for a jolly up and I make sure I have a hotel booked as it’s a million to one that I will be on the train home tonight.

Tuesday 26th. What an amazing day yesterday and I wake amazingly early considering the circumstances, we had a major party until the early hours in London and this morning I have to make the trip across the Capitol to Stansted airport. If I could remember what I got up to and I knew certain people were not reading this I would tell you, I will leave it to your vivid imaginations.

Oh yes I was gutted to see that SUBLIMATION was beaten by the narrowest of margins yesterday.

I catch the Stansted express this morning and hope that Gitty hasn’t purposely left my passport at home.

I arrive in plenty of time and just have to have a livener in Weatheroons to settle the shakes if nothing else. I now have seven days in the sun and sea and maybe a bar or two and hopefully the Greedy 1’s will be paying for it again.

Don’t you just love it when two passengers are missing and all the luggage has to be taken off the plane and it’s made even worse by the lager pushing on your bulging bladder for an hour. As you know I’m not the best of flyers and the wait in the smartie pot is torture. Finally we get away and it takes a further hour until I can get a drink so not the perfect of starts. Thankfully the flight is good and soon passes.

My first day on the Rock and no I don’t mean Alcatraz either, Malta and we have two very strong bets, which I am personally having a right good swing at. The first one is a very strong ew bet at Cartmel which Steve is all over. FORGE VALLEY is trading at 16/1 in the Hunter Chase. I have all my odds2 punters on it and put him up as a maximum ew bet and urge everybody to fill their boots with the 16s as I know he is going to be well punted.  Also Hughsey rides EXCHEQUER at Kempton tonight and I’m told it’s also very well fancied so I also put him up as a maximum ew and also suggest taking the 9/2 because he is also going to be backed.

As soon as we land I turn on my mobile it’s buzzing like a rabbit and I know we were desperately unluckily with our 16/1 Hunter leading all the way and trading odds on in running just to get caught near the line and that Hughsey went one better winning at a very well backed 11/4, so it’s welcome Malta and up yours greedy 1’s.

After the habitual greeting in Rabat of home made wine I pick up my jeep and head to our apartment and may the chill begin.

Wednesday 27th. Oi oi great first days punting in Malta with a 9/2 winner and gosh how close were we to pulling off the 16/1 winner trading at odds on in running and just getting caught very close to the line. Nevertheless we made nearly 20 points profit on the day and with a bit of luck it could do easily been over 50.

We head into Rabat this morning as I can get the Internet at Vince’s bar or the Sunday bar and with the sun shining and a Cisk xl I can start my days form. With all the horses sorted I can now go out for my fishing trip. We pop in another winner today so all is going really well and that’s the holiday paid for, thanks Joe and if our Easterby one wins tomorrow it’s July paid for as well and than if our maximum at Stratford wins Friday night well I don’t know but one thing I can guarantee is it won’t gather any dust.

Thursday 28th. Yesterday we caught eight lovely Rock Fish they are as ugly as hell to look at but fantastic to eat a lobster and two octopuses. We will eat all these for sure in the next few days.

Steve calls me early I know it’s early as I’ve only had one beer lol with a bet at Wetherby tonight in the Hunter Chaser. DROM is trading at 7/4 and we think he is a good bet, well ok the connections do. I email him out and I also add the Michael Easterby trained MULTELLIE ew at 4/1. The sun must of gone to my head or more likely the XL as I realise I have also put it up on my LATE service, so it’s double bubble or double prat later on now. Also on the LATE service I put up DIRECT TIMES win only at 5/2.

It’s really hot today, don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining as I love the heat and I can stick it all day long, these cold holidays don’t do anything for me whatsoever.

Once again we have rocked up at Vince’s, the added bonus is we enjoy local rates and not tourist rates. We can sit and drink for most of the day for twenty euros and with the exchange rate so good €1-38 we got, it’s for nothing.

Another great thing is the time here is one hour in front so that gives me plenty of time to get my selections sorted, it’s a right pain when it’s the other way as it always seem so rushed.

Not the greatest of starts as DIRECT TIMES is just beaten into second at a very well back 7/4. It’s chump or champ time now and thankfully for everybody me included it champ time as MULTIELLE wins very nicely at 7/2, which is a right result for a cockup as you know I put him up by mistake on both my services hehehe oi oi.

If DROM can win later tonight it will be another super winning day making it four on the trot.

We don’t venture far tonight as we all OD last night on the homemade Maltese wine which is very Moreish and extremely strong. So it’s a nice local Rabbit meal a couple of swifties and bed.

Friday 29th. Oi oi come on DROM you beauty another cracking day yesterday two out of two on ANDY BELL making another twenty points profit and a nice winner and winning day on the LATE service as well. If the winners keep coming as they are at the moment I may stay here for another couple of weeks. Things didn’t exactly go to plan last night, well when is my life ever normal, my Maltese brother Ian and Grat rocked up and the beer started to flow freely! Luckily he had to work today so we still turned in relatively early. When your lucks in everything goes well, we knew the young lad working behind the bar in the hotel and he slipped us a couple of all inclusive wrist bands, so that’s us sorted for beer for the rest of our stay.

As promised it’s max, max time at Stratford tonight and we need to be getting on early as the price will be disappearing as quickly as Simon Holden does when it’s his round.

If it’s happening I’m putting it on my LATE service as the rain may scupper things and as we know the ground beats anything.

It’s the big wedding tomorrow, note to myself make sure my Simon Holden boss labels are off my new suits sleeves hehehe.

Weddings in Malta are a huge occasion with half the villages turning out and it’s always in a fantastic setting afterwards and the drinks and canopies just never stop coming round.

Tonight we are invited out to enjoy a suckling pig, the Maltese have this well sorted as they take it to the bakers and put it in the bread ovens for cooking and it makes fantastic crackling.

The time is now right to come back under Belly Boys betting wing as we have some great racing on the horizon, maybe I will get the Royal Ascot special again this year after such a fantastic time last year, where I think we hit something ridiculous like eight or nine winners didn’t we?? June is always a very busy month for us and July don’t  get any quieter either, then we have Glorious Goodwood and not forgetting the Ebor very exciting times coming, my favourite times of the year are upon us again.

It’s goodbye from us in Rabat and goodbye from him.

Back next Saturday.

The Shrewd Tipster

February 17, 2015 By admin Leave a Comment

I went too Southwell last Tuesday for our three horse sting, hoping to better our previous treble that was foiled in a photo finish at Kempton Park last month.

First up was a Very First Blade, who was also my BetFan free tip, he pulled miles clear with another one called Sleet who had been fancied a few times here recently but is a very weak finisher so I was certain he would win the battle and he duly did at a nice SP of 4/1, a great start. We got our second winner when Carlanda won well at 3/1, waiting on Westminster who’s odds went into freefall, looked all over the winner but was headed on the post, foiled again!

We’ll definitely get the crown jewels one day, the next three horse sting will be during Cheltenham Festival week when all eyes will be on there and we’ll get the business done quietly elsewhere, don’t miss it! We’ll be laughing when all the other punters are crying into their beer as another shortie gets beat at the festival.

We had a fairly quiet couple of days after that, I’m not one for slagging jockeys when one gets beat but I get annoyed when they don’t do the simple things.

Most horses I bet like to run close to the pace so they don’t have a lot of ground to make up and also they are good travellers, I never bet anything that pulls hard or runs freely but when a jockey takes a pull and rides it with restraint when all its best form is suited to being more prominent it really annoys me and it happened twice in two days so come Saturday I wasn’t in the best of moods but had two strong fancies at Lingfield.

The first Primrose Valley who’s previous form is looking very strong proved to be different class and will win in a higher grade the second bet Pactolus was available in a place at 5/1 early but was smashed into 7/4, for once recently a photo went our way and we got the money!

Well pleased another good day for us but I’ve got to admit we were blown out of the water by Simon Holden’s Stable Line Gold service who produced an incredible 160 point profit on the day with three double priced winners, amazing tipping, I wished I’d put them in a retirement Canadian never done one of those before! I Hope when I see him next at York races he’s bought himself a new suit that brown and pink combo is very tough to pull off, but I suppose when standing next to him and that Rick Parfitt lookalike Andy Bell it makes me a standout with the ladies!

I had a few messages on Saturday advising me to back Sign of a Victory to win its Cheltenham prep and also ante post to win the Champion Hurdle itself so well had his recent work been. But they had heavy rain late on Friday and the ground had totally gone against this fast ground lover, in fact I was surprised it even ran. He passed on my concerns but they went unheeded. One of the worst sayings in racing is ‘a good horse will win on anything’ total nonsense! A horse may outclass inferior rivals in a weak contest when on unsuitable conditions but not in a graded race.

Free Tip: 3:35 Wolverhampton – Duke Street – Win Bet 15/2 (stanjames)

Until next Tuesday

Betting Opportunity Eyecatchers

December 17, 2014 By admin Leave a Comment

The World of golf is not happy after Lewis Hamilton was crowned BBC sports personality of 2014 beating Rory Mcllroy into 2nd place. When asked even Hamilton admitted he would have voted for Rory who by any standards has had an incredible year.

On the subject of Television Channel 4 racing is in turmoil again with viewing figures down 25%. It has been revealed that Claire Balding will only present the Cheltenham Festival and the Royal Ascot meetings next year.

Claire has refused to front the two biggest races on the calendar the National and the Derby which is a snub to the great sport of racing.

Her reason for not being at the big Aintree meeting is that she prefers to present the boat race on the same day which have the first ever race between two female crews.

I applaud her for supporting women but wouldn’t it be great if we had a female jockey win the National when Claire was getting her feet wet in the Thames. So come on Katie Walsh and Lucy Alexander you can do it.

As for Channel 4 racing I think they should ask Simon Holden if he is available or perhaps their best bet is to get Ant and Dec to front the program as Lord Snooty bores the pants off of me.

While the hotties have been disappointing the eyecatchers continue in fantastic form with Topaling winning this week at 7/1. I have noticed that other Betfan columnists have started putting up horses to follow but they will have to go some to beat the big price winners the Wednesday eyecatchers have given you over time. Mind you they say copying is the greatest form of flattery.

Today the racing has a super blend of allweather and jump racing so something for everyone and for Howies Hottie I’m going jumping in the 2.25 Ludlow. The tip is Opening Batsman from the Harry Fry yard.

The gelding ran an interesting race in the Badger Ales chase at Wincanton where he was in contention until tiring in the closing stages. It was his seasonal debut so he should be straighter and this slightly shorter trip should be perfect.

EYECATCHERS

ARTIFICIAL SURFACES

Club House trainer R.Mills – After a slow start he did well to get into the race and was an unlucky loser behind my winning tip Medling at Lingfield. If getting away on terms next time he will be hard to beat.

Sea Soldier trainer A.Balding – Ran in the same race as Club House finishing way down the field however I could see glimmers of the old fire burning. Now this is the sort of eyecatcher nobody else would ever dream of giving you and this well handicapped horse can well turn up at a massive price.

Rockview Emperor trainer J.Mconnell – A slow start cost him dear at Dundalk last week and it’s possible that an increase in distance can see this strong closer get the gold medal.

JUMPERS

First Mohican trainer A.King – Fell at the last at Doncaster when on the heels of the leaders but his jumping does need improvement. This was the only horse who could keep up with Frankel when trained by Sir Henry Cecil. He is worth keeping an eye out for over jumps but it would not surprise me if they decided to give the artificial surfaces a go in particular the Winter Derby.

Showboating trainer B.Palling – A good 2nd in a bumper behind a well regarded sort he should improve for the outing.

Un Ace trainer K.Bailey – Has been running very well in novice events and will be even better when he gets good ground.

Back next Wednesday have a good week and be lucky.

MCRacing – An Introduction

November 20, 2014 By admin Leave a Comment

So how did MCracing come to be ?

If you are a member to my service you will have a basic idea of how it all came about.

So basically I have been punting for 20 years or so with varying degrees of success gleaning information for my selections from the written press, you know the ones, before progressing onto internet based information.

My early years betting was basically for fun and nothing too serious, but it soon became apparent that I had an eye for the game, and whilst serving in the Armed Forces over in Germany  I soon gained a following from the lads every time I went to our local track in Dortmund and back then it was all about the win.

When I returned from overseas and left the Forces, I took a job over at Heathrow airport and my local tracks were Windsor and Ascot, which by all accounts are pretty good tracks to try and learn the art of wining money from racing and again whenever I went to the track or my friends were off racing I became their first port of call.

As I said before, my betting never really had any structure and I would be betting various amounts on selections dependent on what strength I thought it had of winning and it was all about the win. There were all the usual emotional  ups and downs as well as betting to try and recoup losses, so basically I was drifting from bet to bet with no plan going forward, but I was having fun.

It wasn’t until about 10 years ago that I thought if I wanted to make money from my betting I would have to learn a lot more about the game and get some discipline, so I set about trying to learn all that I could through books and other literature and even trying to use other peoples way of betting , the problem was that I was trying to bet on too many races.

It was at this point that I decided to concentrate on certain types of races and as I liked both the flat and the jumps equally I decided to devise 2 mini systems of my own. The first was handicap chasers running  two half miles and over,  the second on the flat for handicaps  between ten and thirteen furlongs, with these two systems I started to see progression as all my bets were restricted to these types of races and my betting started to improve, but nothing  spectacular  apart from earning extra money to supplement the monthly wages, and  that’s  how I rolled along.

It wasn’t until about 3 years ago when I stumbled on a piece of software which basically enabled me to see at a glance whether a horse was progressing or regressing , so instead of looking at loads of numbers I could see those numbers in a line graph format, which helped me to make more informed selections to my two systems and helped me establish how competitive the race was.

Without a shadow of a doubt  this was the first major step for me to becoming a professional bettor for a living. It wasn’t long after this that the same author of the software released a set of ratings of which I jumped on board without hesitation because if these ratings were to be half as good as the software then I knew that they would be good.

I soon realised that I could make serious money with these ratings as they were right down my street of sifting through figures and assigning different ratings to different types of races, along with the ratings I was able to join the forum where you could ask about the ratings and swap ideas for using them with other forum members.

So with the ratings I was able improve my two systems further and at this point set about posting these selections along with other system ideas on the forum , some with success and some not but it was a good way for me to live test other systems that I was working on. At the same time I was looking at putting my own twist on the ratings by devising my own set of ratings to run along side the ones that I was using, so basically I would use the rating to find the horses that were expected to run well then make my final selection based on my own ratings which suited my betting style, which is to have a reasonable amount of selections per week and to keep losing runs down to a minimum.

So  I move on to the present, having achieved my goal of being a pro bettor and still using the forum for testing ideas and being a regular contributor, and it was from my activity on the forum that WIN became interested in what I was doing and I was approached by them to see if I wanted to start a service with them, and I suppose the rest is history (recent history that is) and I supply my selections under the service MCracing.

To that end I have to say that Michael Wilding of the Race Advisor and the developer of the ratings that I use has been instrumental in the transition of my betting, by teaching me all the good fundamentals to make a success of myself all through his professionalism and sound advice, I must also mention Eddie Lloyd ( me ole china ) , who has also steered me in the right direction with his extensive knowledge of the betting industry and approaches to betting and along with the Betfan team I consider them to be a few of the good guys in the industry.

Just one more thing before I go, why not head over to Betfan TV  on Friday’s and catch the chat I had with the totally absorbing Simon Holden.

All The Best,
Mick
