Could The Tiger Roll Again In the 2020 Grand National?

April 7, 2019 By admin Leave a Comment

Sporting history is in the hands of the handicapper who could give Tiger Roll a manageable weight for the Grand National next year. Red Rum is the only three-time winner of the race but that was not in successive years. He won the race in 1973 and 1974 and came second in the following two years. Red Rum was beaten by better handicapped horses but came back to Aintree in 1977 to win a third National. TIGER ROLL had a few pounds in hand on Saturday and if the handicapper is reasonable he could win three Nationals in a row and that outcome is 6/1 with Ladbrokes.

It’s a case off after the Lord Mayor’s show with today’s racing. The Grand National is the most famous race in the world and it attracts a huge global television audience and the most betting of the year in the UK. The people’s race was won by the people’s horse and Tiger Rill is now an immortal sporting superstar. The highest level races today are two Grade 2 novice hurdles at Fairyhouse. The richest of those contests is over two miles at 2.55pm. The heart is ruling the head when tipping ROLL AGAIN at 11/1 with Paddy Power but the horse is progressive and can prevail.

Wolves are one of the best teams to be promoted from the Championship and are in contention to finish seventh in the Premier League. That position would get them into the Europa League but winning the FA Cup is an alternative route. However, Manchester City await the winners of today’s semi-final between Wolves and Watford. The former are one position ahead of their opponents and have won one more point and have the better goal difference by 1 goal. WOLVES are 3/4 with Ladbrokes to qualify for the final of the FA Cup.

Home Wins In The Premier League Today

Everton and West Ham are similar in playing their home matches at traditional stadiums for many years. Goodison Park and Upton Park are in the middle of residential areas and the infrastructure is inadequate for Premier League football. West Ham moved to the London Stadium and Everton will have a spanking new ground in the next few years. However, fans who want the move should be careful what they wish for because West Ham have no points from four matches and are bottom of the league. EVERTON can rub salt into the wound by beating the Hammers at their famous old stadium and that result is 8/11 with William Hill.

Wolves and Burnley have come up from the Championship in the last few years and often teams make a quick return to the second level. However, these two clubs can break that trend and become established in the Premier League. Wolves have invested in a manager and players while Burnley have Sean Dyche in charge. However, Burnley’s Europa League adventure has been unsuccessful and their league form has suffered. They have already played 10 competitive matches and not recorded a win after 90 minutes. WOLVES can also win at home at 8//11 with Coral. The double on Everton at Wolves pays almost 2/1.

It’s the second day of Irish Champions weekend at the Curragh and the card features four Group 1 races. Two of those contests are for horses aged two and another is a sprint over five furlongs. Aidan O’Brien has 10 runners in the three races and should have a winner or two. He also trains the favourite for the Irish St Leger in Flag Of Honour but the horse could be thwarted by a runner trained by his son, Joseph. LATROBE won the Irish Derby and can win this Classic at 5/2 with Ladbrokes.

In 2010 Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor came second in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards and might have won it but for Tony McCoy winning the Grand National. He is the only darts player to be placed in the ceremony which indicates Taylor’s standing in the game. The 57 year-old has been the world champion 16 times but retires after the PDC World Championship. He plays his first round match against the unseeded Chris Dobey tonight who he leads 2-0 in head-to-head contests. Taylor can make the perfect start to his last hurrah so must be backed to win 3-0 at 6/5 with William Hill.

With no Premier League football tonight the highlight is the televised clash in which Sheffield Wednesday play Wolves at home in the Championship. There will be many twists and turns before next May but the visitors are looking good for promotion to the top flight. Wolves last played in the top tier of English football in the 2011-12 season but traditionally they are one of the biggest clubs in the country. The club were pioneers in European football, hosting friendly matches against continental opposition before formal European matches were introduced.

If Wolves confirm recent form and win at Wednesday tonight they will go seven points clear at the top of the table. They have won 15 of their 21 Championship matches this season, scoring 41 goals which is six more than the second highest scoring team.  The golden days could be returning for the team that play in gold so the football bet of the night is WOLVES to beat Sheffield Wednesday at 11/10 with Ladbrokes.

The cross country chase is not the most popular race at the Cheltenham Festival for the racing purists but huge crowds flock to the centre of the course to watch the horses jump a variety of obstacles.  Today the track stages its traditional handicap over a variety of fences and the race (3.05pm) has attracted a decent field and its live on ITV4. CANTLOW won the race by nine lengths last year and looks a decent bet at 6/1 with Coral to win it again today.
