This is where we learn about how to construct a placepot and a simple strategy that can regularly return some good dividends. The placepot is where we have to find a horse placed in the first six races on any given race card. In today’s example I’ll show you how I returned nearly £150 for a £20 outlay and had an interest in every race. We need a Totesport account to start. You can get one here…

So first up we choose a meeting. Last month I went with Lingfield and followed these simple rules.

1. Any races that have 10 or more runners in it we select three horses.

2. Any races with 9 or less runners in it we select 2 horses.

3. We choose a meeting that has no more than 3 races with 10 runners in it. So 4 or more races with 10 runners in a meeting would not qualify.

So in order to find the selections we need to look at the Racing Post’s SP forecast and select either the first two favourites or three depending on how many runners (see rules above).

I have illustrated an example below in a race with 10 runners in it.

You’ll see that the first three in the betting forecast have been selected and will be put into the bet. I went through the card and came up with the following selections.

2.00 Lingfield: 2, 4 and 7

2.30 Lingfield: 3 and 5

3.00 Lingfield: 2 and 4

3.30 Lingfield: 2, 12 and 9

4.00 Lingfield: 9, 2 and 4

4.30 Catterick: 2 and 6

In order to calculate our stake we need to multiply each number of selections in each leg by the next one. In this case that would look like this:

3 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 x 2 = 216 lines. To keep things cheaper we simply stake £0.10p per line which comes to £21.60p.

The above selections had several placed and returned £149.68p.

Lets have a look at a card for today so you can see an other example of how the bet is constructed and hopefully we can get a placepot up.

Lingfield qualifies for today and I have listed today’s runner in their numbers from the card.

2.00 1 & 3

2.30 4, 2 & 3

3.00 3 & 1

3.30 2 & 5

4.00 3 & 6

4.30 3 & 1

So as we multiply each line by the next this gives us 96 lines so at £0.10p per line our placepot today will cost us £9.60p.

That’s it and let’s hope we can grab that winning placepot!
