Up and Down Week.
Sunday 11th. I know everybody thinks it’s easy to pick even money shots and yes when they win it is, however if you ever get a spare few moment try it for a week or so, anyway as I said in Friday nights email, WHY?? is BALDER SUCCESS even money because for the life of me I can’t see why. Hunt Ball, ok who was good in or on his day who is trading as second favourite and then the rag who on form can beat Hunt Ball. I just can’t see it so I email out a maximum bet on him.
Sunday morning. Thankfully after bulling him up as a “good thing” BALDER does win as he was entitled to and in the context of the race is still a great sp of 10/11.
The Grumbling Don is at it again in his column moan, moan, moan hehehe when he said he was speaking to someone high up over Christmas about racing with his imagination that could only be Father Christmas and they know about as much as each other regarding racing.
Facilities poor at the old Great Leigh’s, yes it had it’s issues, but he only saw it because he’s a cheap skate, (probably standing on the A131) looking over the fence, if he had of ever gone in or near the owners and trainers bar he would of seen the courtesy soup was always hot and readily available, the bar was well stocked, the seats were comfortable and compared to Newmarket the TVs and viewing facilities made it look like the inside of a space ship.
We are In fact plying our trade at Great Leigh’s today and I have an invite (note The Don) let’s hope after my opening statements I’m not disappointed. We are going there to back LUNAR DEITY who is trading at 10/3 and looks he looks a decent bet on the opening day.
Lunar deity hit the front a furlong out and looked all over the winner and traded long odds on only to idle in front and get beaten a nose.
BRAVO RIQUET is trading slightly odds on at 8/11 at Plumpton tomorrow and I can’t resist emailing him out and advising all to snap up this price, not an incredible price in itself but in the context of the race he should be a 4-7/1-2 shot.
Said before you get good and bad odds on shots and as Saturday’s easy winner this is certainly a good one, although many say it’s easy picking them don’t forget less than two out of three lose, try it for a week and it will come apparent it’s not easy, but don’t think you can do it all the time and make a profit because you certainly won’t.
Monday 11th. I wake this morning to see amazingly BRAVO RIQUET is a big drifter, I must be missing something and I can’t see what, unless he hasn’t eaten up after his win two days ago, but surely then he wouldn’t be running, it’s too late to worry now because I am and we are “ALL” in.
I am looking forward to actually going racing tomorrow at Fakenham, even though it will freeze the balls off a brass monkey it’s good to get out and about again.
BRAVO RIQUET does have to battle it out from two out but wins for us giving us a nice profit on the day.
Tuesday 12th. Fakenhams official going today was good/soft? As I arrived I could see it was once again a joke, even the Don could tell there wasn’t any good whatsoever in the going from his vantage point up the perimeter oak tree. This just isn’t good enough and needs to be addressed and quickly, because we all know the going can beat any horse and it’s such a vital part of the jigsaw.
When a winning jockey says as Tom Scudamore did after his winner, it’s hard to get and you need to be up there, it’s certainly time to take note and listen and ignore what the man with his stick says.
Destroyer deployed was well backed from 7/2 into 5/2 joint favouritism, only for the heavens to open to change the going to very heavy and the race was won in a crawl.
Canadian diamond was also very well backed from 9/4 into 13/8 but we knew our fate as the stalls opened as he completely missed the beat and blew it, he is much better than that and speaking to the connections their will certainly be another day.
Wednesday 13th. I can’t remember the racing being this poor last year, it’s not only the field sizes it’s the poor quality in them. Personally I would rather have less runners and more quality. The problem with the lessor graded racing is that if you run a race ten times you would probably get seven or eight different results. We are in profit this month, but we are taking one step forward and one back, although saying that we are hitting a very, very acceptable 42% strike rate.
We backed THOMAS BLOSSOM last time he bolted up and I think he has another win in him today, he is trading at a shortish price but in my opinion he warrants that.
I don’t really know what happened to THOMAS he just seemed rather flat footed or a bit lethargic, whatever it was he didn’t pick up like he did last time, or maybe the race wasn’t ran to suit as a 16/1 and 33/1 filled the places, who knows sometimes we tend to forget that horses are living creatures and he may just of woken up with a headache and thought sod this today.
Thursday 14th. Just before I depart I’m sold on the chances of TRICKAWAY who won so easily last time and also STILL BELIEVING who looks to be a bet to nothing ew.
The LATE SERVICE is still in Profit this month, thankfully, as the racing is awful at the moment and poor MIDNIGHT BELLE has a string of seconds to her name which are certainly not her fault and today I think she can win so she is the first email.
It’s the mad rush to Stansted airport now hoping nothing has been forgotten and hoping we can bang in some winners and get things moving again this month.
MIDNITE belle 7/4 proved the seconditis wasn’t her fault she was just bumping into something better on the day and wins nicely for us at the advised 7/4. SILVER GROVE who I thought was going to win was just beaten into second which gave us a very small ew.
It’s nearly tea time and I am on the smartie pot heading towards Malta for my annual January jolly jaunt. Unfortunately we didn’t finish off the year as one had wished, but we did achieve over 550 points profit and in anyones books that’s a cool £1100 tax free for a score and the LATE SERVICE also contributed with over 350 points profit. But I do agree It’s always nice to finish off the year on a high but WTF it’s only bragging rights it’s really the rest that counts.
The strong pound doesn’t count for jack shit in the airport bars with a large Gin and Tonic £8, a glass of wine £7.50 and if accompanied by frozen chips with a sprat masquerading as a piece of cod at £15.
I arrive to see we have had a losing day on my main service and a small winning day on my LATE SERVICE, which could of been so much better had TRICKAWAY placed at least, because we had him in a nice ew double with our other winner MIDNIGHT BELLE.
We did get a little luckier on the smartie pot and I’m not talking about joining the mile high club either, that’s still on my bucket list lol, father and I noticed the flight wasn’t full and smoothed our way into the emergency exit seats and had loads of room. We arrive to not sunnier climes but the 17* is a far cry from what we left.
Friday 15th. Today we are changing the format slightly as I am now getting my column in on a Friday night and the free tip is going to be added Saturday morning.
Today is my first day of my January week away in Malta and from what I am told this morning the weather is nearly as bad as the racing we are having to endure at the moment.
I have had a very confident word for TAVENER and STREETS OF NEW YORK so I email these out as two singles, I did toy with the idea of an ew double, but want to get a couple of winners under our belt first and than kick on.
It’s Sod’s law that I get two given to me in the same race SABRE FORT, who we backed last time and he was the first leg of a nice winning double for my ANDY BELLs clients. The stable think they have another win in him before the handicapper catches up although they think it will be closer today than last time. I have also had a big word for HILL FORT so I decide to back him ew at 8/1. With what I have been told I also decide to back and advise them both in a RFC and email these bets out to my LATE SERVICE.

Heed the great mans words and join my service or another which betfan has to offer and reap the tax free benefits, BUT please chose wisely, always look at long term profits.
